And Now....For Something Completely Different. Compilation of restored, enhanced & colorized film footage of the building of the Empire State Building

Various footage of the construction of the Empire State Building.

From the description:
"The various original B&W footage has been motion-stabilized, speed-corrected, restored, enhanced and colorized with contemporary Artificial Intelligence software."

What a way to work on a building back then.

Mohawks.

The older I get, the less tolerant of heights I am. I can’t even watch something like this without getting vertigo.

Saint Cloud, Minnesota, where the weather is wonderful even when it isn't.

Thanks for posting this!
My grandfather worked on the construction of the ESB as an iron worker, and used to tell harrowing tales of walking those beams in the windy afternoons.

Aloha, Ken

I'm often tempted when in an airport to walk around, hollering "The Løpe", to see if anyone other than the Homeland Security people will acknowledge me. ” - The Løpe

Amazing footage.
I do wish people would stop auto-colorizing and posting footage. What's the point of colorizing, if the colors are going to be an ever-shifting rainbow of flickering, AI guesstimates?

The same here, although I've been that way since about the age of 18

Depression era. There were actually people on the ground watching to see a worker fall (often to said worker's death) hoping they could get hired for that job. old fogey smiley

^This. Irritating auto-colorizing detracts from the original.

Reminds me of Orson Welles' reaction to those who wanted to colorize Citizen Kane: "Don’t let Ted Turner deface my movie with his crayons."

Yeah, five of those guys working on the ESB ended up dead.

But they did earn $15 an hour….err…I mean, a day.
