Micky is the only Monkee left!

The Monkees were a big part of my childhood. Like the 60's Batman, I never missed an episode. When the show started, I was 8 YO. At that time, I thought they were so cool!

I had a college roommate who was a Radio discjockey - he said the Monkees we're greatly underappreciated. He felt they were on par with the Beatles (he also inhaled most of his nutrition).

I would agree the Monkees were greatly under appreciated, but as I don't use, they didn't come close to the Beatles.

They were largely dismissed as a 'fake band' — they don't play their own instruments, etc.

78 seems pretty young.

I think lots of bands used the Wrecking Crew when they started, like the Byrds. I think many bands, including the Monkees, began to play their instruments more often.

Well, crap. I saw them 5 weeks ago. He was definitely not in the best of health, and seemed confused in a couple of songs but was still quick witted.

They put on a good show and were very enjoyable.

RIP, you funny talented man.

I really liked his own music and also loved the Monkees back in the day. I still remember living in SF in 1970, driving over the Golden Gate Bridge and hearing his song Joann, both for the first time. RIP

That’s a great version, I really enjoyed it. Thanks so much for posting. It was a magic time to be a kid looking to get started in the music business and hearing that song for me was a great inspiration.
