OJ Simpson a ‘completely free man’; parole ends in Nevada

LAS VEGAS (AP) — O.J. Simpson is a free man.

The 74-year-old former football hero and actor, acquitted California murder defendant and convicted Las Vegas armed robber was granted good behavior credits and discharged from parole effective Dec. 1, Nevada State Police spokeswoman Kim Yoko Smith said Tuesday.

“Mr. Simpson is a completely free man now,” said Malcolm LaVergne, Simpson’s lawyer in Las Vegas.

Simpson declined an immediate interview, LaVergne said, and the attorney declined to talk about Simpson’s future plans, including whether he intends to remain in Nevada.

Simpson had told parole officials before his Oct. 1, 2017, release from prison that he planned to move to Florida.

He instead moved to a gated community in Las Vegas, where he plays golf and frequently takes to Twitter to offer opinions about college and pro sports, especially football.

“Life is fine,” he told The Associated Press during a June 2019 interview.

O.J. Simpson is a free man.

I am deeply saddened to hear that.

But then I was deeply saddened that he got parole.

And I was deeply saddened and angered that he wasn't convicted of murder, in the first place.

But — the rule of law is the rule of law.

Or — it is what it is.

I'm so confused on how after being in jail for all that time and the civil suits how he has money to live in a gated community and play golf all day upon release. I thought he was broke??

He set a lot of his money up in a trust that couldn't be touched by the court award to the plaintiffs. It pays out like 35K a month for life, IIRC.

In some states, pensions are protected against civil suits.

I think there’s some missing info. You can’t just hide money in a trust to protect it from lawsuits and similar forfeiture

he has a "Defined benefit retirement plan" from the NFL, and might have hid money offshore. [www.wealthmanagement.com]

In Florida you can shield property (e.g., primary residence) from those kinds of actions.

What's the over/under for OJ being arrested again? Let's make it 8 months.

He has been out of prison since 2017 I don't see 8 more months making a difference.

I don't think he'll make it that far in FL unless he's vaccinated.
