Spammers don’t call after 9:00 PM. They hung up after I said “hello.”

Someone accidentally misdialing a number is an innocent mistake.
Someone intentionally calling someone they don't know for "revenge" is harassment.

Sometimes (rarely) they do. They now know the number is a valid number. Either that, or it was an honest mistake. Perhaps they were too embarrassed to speak, or some young person that doesn’t understand how rude just hanging up really is. Oops, misdialed, hang up before they answer! And didn’t make it in time.

Also, would you want someone to call you at 3am, calling back a potentially spoofed number? Just step away from the phone.

I once made the mistake of texting my brother, thinking that he would get it when he got up in the morning. It was 2am his time, about 6-7 pm my time. Yes, he’s physically on the other side of the world from me. He got me back a couple of nights later, waiting until it was 2am MY time to send me a text. I had just managed to almost drop off to sleep. Needless to say, I now more closely consider the time.

For awhile I was getting spam calls that used my landline number! Now that was weird…

I will occasionally get calls from people asking me why the hell I called them. I calmly explain that it was caller ID spoofing and I did not call them. Most of the time we end the call agreeing that scammers should burn in the fires of heck.

Someone texted me a few angry messages telling me not to call anymore. I never called the person and never will. I deleted the text and haven't heard anything since then.

I had something like that happen -- an angry voicemail telling me never to call the number again, that they were on the "do not call" list. I'm sure that what they got was my number being spoofed.

It was after 9:00. Nuisance calls 99.99% stop after 9. We get legitimate local calls all the time from unknown numbers.

It's a land line; there's no way to know what number the call is coming from unless Caller ID is available and paid extra for.

This is how I do, as I have CID.

Also, my landline phones are all muted so the only indication of an incoming call is when the handset's display lights up.

A quick glance tells me what I need to know.

For me, any unexpected call after 2000hrs is suspicious.

Those who need to contact me have my 'Phone number and of course, it has CID, too.

It's started getting a few unknown callers now, and I got one the CID IDed as POLITICAL, so it was avoided as well.
