google "almost full, buy more space"

85% of googs free space of 15G is used.
But there seems to be no way to clear it out.
It's nearly all email.
Anything I need long term I dl.
I certainly don't need anything in the trash and I emptied that.
But it all ended up in "All Mail"
96000 emails in "all Mail"
Is there a way to empty the trash ?
Or is this just googs way of getting scripts up and it's time to switch to a different provider.?

This is for Gmail? And "Google" here is being used as a noun, not a verb for us to perform?

yes. go to your google drive page. click on Trash and you'll see an option to Empty Trash. on my desktop it's in the upper right corner.

Or, in gmail itself click on Trash and there's an Empty Trash option on the top of the page.

Did you just empty it? I find it sometimes takes awhile for the clearance to refresh.

Also, if you are sure you've downloaded essential email, have you tried select All in your inbox or any folder and doing a mass delete? Sometimes you can only do it page by page but after a few all page deletions it will ask if you'd like to cut to the chase and delete everything in the Inbox.

It's counting all of your Gmail attachments. You might not need a bunch of them. Try this.

"To save space on Gmail, type “has: attachment larger:10M” in the search box and click search to see all the emails with attachments taking space larger than 10MB. You can replace the digit as per your liking to find big files on email and clear them up. Also, do not forget to clear your Trash folder."

results come in blocks of 50.
still a very slow process.

messages from 2015. Ridiculous.
Even though dump trash every 30 days is checked in Mac Mail, nothing, apparently, leaves "all Mail".

I did clear the trash folder yesterday and today. No change.

Clearly, I'm missing something here.

Where is says "1-50 of many" you can flip it to show the oldest email first. That could help.

It’s a Google thing.

Also check your spam folder. And see what’s in sent mail.

Also try sorting by sender.

Helpful topic; thanks.

My gmail is showing 14.42GB usage out of 15 GB.

I selected and deleted about 15,000 emails, but the storage numbers didn't budge.

Any thoughts?

"larger:3M after:2015/12/31 before:2018/1/1.

At the left side of your Gmail page scroll down until you see the "trash" icon and click on it. At the top of the page click "empty trash."

it isn't a very user friendly sequence, but eventually.
just can't figure the math of the filter.
But I check before I saw goodbye. Opened up 7G or so.
See if I can muster results with Promotion folder. That should clear the bulk of it.

Careful.
What you do here is quite permanent.
Save emails you need locally to Archive/On My Mac.

From web gmail.

Set Search options. Right side of search box, 3 sliders.
Check and change dates, folders as needed. I suggest starting with Sent emails.

[

Hit return.

Select All box above list of left.
Top of list on right In hypertext “Select all message that meet this search “.
Click trash can above list.
Confirm Bulk action.
Expand left column of folders and click bottom Trash.
“Empty Trash now” hypertext at top right of list.
Confirm

I cleared out >15000 emails today, from as far back as 2004. Who knew?. From 13G space used to 2G.
Lots of "promos", sent, etc.

Now if I could just figure out why gmail is autosaving like mad.
and stop it.

Yes, Gmail doesn’t follow the usual mail server rules, either for IMAP or POP.

More data harvesting is my guess.
