Monitor recommendation?
Posted by: davemchine

I'm looking for a monitor that would work with a 2019 MacBook Pro. It will be used for general use such as homework by my daughter. She tried sitting at my 27" iMac and felt that was too big. Recommendations?

Ukulele music I couldn't find anywhere else.
I’ve added some recipes and spiritual thoughts as well.

Too big? No such thing. Just move a little farther from the monitor.

If you/she really need something smaller, 24" monitors are a dime a dozen.

Any brands or features I should look for?

pretty much any monitor on the planet will work. =)

I would look for something with an adjustable stand, always nice to have.

fwiw, it looks like many monitor prices are up in $$. bought my wife a pair of Dell 24" S2421HS for $129 each, now $200+... on sale. A little more poking around and I found the same results on some others I looked at.

yup. bought 2 monitors summer 2020. One is now 2x what I paid, and the other is about 20% more than what I paid. Was casually looking for a monitor for another reason in the past month and decided to just wait on it for now. Glad I'm not in a situation where I have to be buying one at the moment.

Can’t go wrong with a 24 inch Dell Ultrasharp QHD monitor. 2560 x 1440 resolution, HDMI and Displayport inputs, 3 year warranty

My daughters laptop only has usb-c ports. Will I need an adapter?

How important is resolution in this application (student)? Asus seems highly rated and their 24” screen does 1920x1200 but their 27” does 3840x2160 which seems significantly higher.

Asus seems OK to me, unless you are buying their ProArt models. that 27" is 4K.

no adapter, just the right cable. Dells come with the correct cable, but with any monitor you should check. USB C to HDMI, or USB C to display port is common.

pretty much all 24s" will be 1920 x 1080.

Take a trip to best buy and look at some in person?

[outlet.us.dell.com]

prolly need a USB C to HDMI or DP, depending on the monitor.
I have 2 Dell refurbs like the above link.
Each 10 yo or more. Still quite nice. I don't do picture or video or anyhting that requires the absolute best picture. But I assure you, the Dells don't suck.

Get a monitor that has a native USB-C port and provides charging capabilities through that port. Dell, Lenovo, and LG all have monitors that foot the bill. The LGs have external power supplies, which I don't like, but by far have the nicest looking screens.

Maybe a used Apple cinema 24 display and adapter? That is my set up and the monitor is still a nice design. I see them on my Craigslist fairly often for $100-150.

Used monitors which use LEDs rather than fluorescent bulbs as their light source last a LONG time. I’ve done very well buying used Dell 24” monitors.

24" with 2560 x 1440 is a rare beast, and usually $$$, from any maker. Text gets really tiny.

Im a big fan of Dells, there are currently 6 in my house... but either 24" @ 1920 x 1080 or 27" @ 2560 x 1440.

Still think a trip to best buy, or staples, or office xxx or whatever you have in your area would be a good idea to look at in person.
