LuLu has always been cool, and hot.

I know you've seen "The Man with the Golden Gun"!

BGnR

"Good heavens, Miss Sakamoto! You're beautiful!"
"If we dig precious things from the land, we will invite disaster."
"Near the day of Purification, there will be cobwebs spun back and forth in the sky."
"A container of ashes might one day be thrown from the sky, which could burn the land and boil the oceans."

Hadn't seen her perform for many years before this. Sill has that strong, sexy voice and bod. She surprised me.

Maybe there is hope for the rest of us!

You mean 'Babs' - er I mean 'Peg'? Personally, I like the original rendition. On Idol, she seemed like she wanted to prove that she could still BELT it out, also "Motowned" it up a bit. The original was smoother and much more controlled (restrained) which made it sound more of an emotional song.

Anyway, when you're thinking 60's Brit chicks, don't forget about Cilla Black (Step Inside Love, Alfie), Petula Clark (Call Me, Downtown), and Dusty Springfield (The Look of Love, Spooky). Shirley Bassey's "Diamonds are Forever" wasn't even recorded until '71 and should have not been allowed. Could have gone with Bassey's "Goldfinger" though. If I remember correctly, Bassey was older and not really part of the pop surge. She was more adult contemporary and by the late 60's, more like a diva. Great singer, none the less, and covered more than a few Beatles' songs, but not what comes to mind when thinking British Invasion female singers.

I liked her Idol performance. She "did" prove that she can belt it out. And she looked "great." Cute as hell.

Jp! While dated, you'll enjoy "To Sir, With Love." I suggest you check out Sidney Poitier's early work while he's still with us. My favorite of mine is "A Raisin in the Sun"

had a few pitch problems.. first few and a couple places in middle.

at 1:52 or so it seems like she has an in ear monitor issue and gives monitor world a dirty look..
camera quickly changed angles

overall she did quite well!(good to see some decent plastic surgery and REALLY high spike heels - amazing what they can do for a girl these days) haha

Lulu was/is great.

If we're talking Poitier, "In the Heat of the Night" is his best work IMHO.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

Poitier has done a lot of good stuff. I especially like "Lilies of the Field".

Isn't Lulu married to one of the Gibb brothers?

David Bowie actually wrote it, and Lulu recorded her version in the Seventies. So Nirvana actually did a cracking version of a Lulu recording. Yikes! ;)

Sorry, didn't mean to stamp on your punch line. I guess I just wanted to put in a plug for David Bowie when the opportunity arose.

Tho' she is still looking pretty darn good and will be 45 comes this July, my woman wants to know the name and phone number of LuLu's surgeon for future cosmetic needs ... just in case ;)

The new version not bad at all, still eI enjoy her original rendition of "To Sir With Love".

SoCal for now.

Yes. See it while you have the chance, because he's decided that when he goes, he's going to take it with him.

The best rendition was "Rock Star: INXS"'s Jordis Unga. Sends chills up my spine.

Ah, To Sir With Love was the first big hit I remember. There might have been some others. Morning Dew was really, really good.

Brit pop ladies in the '60s:

Sandie Shaw and Dusty Springfield were the biggies for me.

Sandie's first big hit (1964) was "(There's) Always Something There to Remind Me" by the legendary Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Dionne Warwick didn't get around to her excellent version until 1968, but Sandie's was and is remarkable for a 17-year old.
