Look for TSLA to get pummeled on Monday

Tesla reported Sunday that it delivered 936,000 cars in 2021, an 87 percent increase from the year before, despite the computer chip shortage that has disrupted auto production around the world.

In the fourth quarter alone, the company delivered more than 308,000 vehicles, a 71 percent increase from the quarter a year earlier. The overwhelming share of the deliveries were of the Model 3 sedan and the Model Y hatchback.

Tesla does not break out its deliveries by country. Much of its recent growth has been propelled by sales in Europe and China.

The jump in deliveries capped a momentous year in which Tesla saw its stock and profits soar. It has also worked to open factories near Austin, Tex., and Berlin, in Germany, in hopes of sustaining its rapid growth.

In October, Tesla’s market value for the first time exceeded $1 trillion, making it more valuable than General Motors, Ford Motor, Toyota, Volkswagen, Stellantis, BMW and several other automakers combined.

On Friday, Tesla’s stock closed at $1,056.78, up from just under $700 at the end of 2020. The stock’s rise was fueled by increasing sales and profits. In the third quarter, the company earned $1.6 billion, more than double its earnings in all of 2020, its first profitable year.

But it missed on the Model S and X vehicles.

It delivered a combined 11,750 Model S and Model X vehicles, an improvement from 9,275 in the third quarter. Analysts were expecting Tesla to deliver 12,879 Model S and Model X cars.

IT'S DOOOOMED.

I have my sell order in for Monday morning RollingEyesSmiley5

Gawd I wish they would buy Fiat's designers! Those cars are such pretty rolling piles of garbage!

Oddly enough, I saw my first Tesla left at the side of the highway today. Wheels (that I saw) looked okay. No accident damage that I saw.

I suppose it happens. Run out of battery? Autopilot decided it was time to park?

Dunno.

I've heard of people having a dead Tesla carried on a flatbed!
It can be charged by towing it!
[youtu.be]
Love the comment at 10:55 "You're really good at math!"

Can you recharge a Tesla Model 3 by towing it? That's a great question, and we're going to to use a Ford Raptor to find out. We'll also need to determine how quickly a Tesla can be recharged by towing it, and how far you'd need to travel to fully recharge the battery. The Tesla Model 3 can charge its battery through regenerative braking, where the wheels of the car force the electric motor to spin, which forces a charge into the battery. This is used to slow the car down, and improve its efficiency. However, if you tow the car, you might be able to use that regenerative braking to charge the battery, that is what this video seeks to find out.

On top of this, we'll determine what's more efficient - Option 1: traveling with a Ford Raptor from A to B, or Option 2: Using a Raptor to tow a Tesla, then driving the Tesla from A to B. To do this, we'll need to determine the Tesla's efficiency, the Ford's efficiency, and the Ford's efficiency while towing. Then, using the regen rate of the Tesla, we can find out what the Tesla's true fuel economy is while using a Ford Raptor to tow it. It's a super fun video with a fascinating conclusion; have a watch!

If analysts were expecting 10 and TSLA delivered 9, the stock is F'd. Everything else is window dressing.

dunno about Monday, but as we've said here before, when VW, Chevy, Ford and perhaps Geely/Volvo/Polestar start rolling, Tesla will be batts and solar. Not that those would be bad for them neither.

Volvo is importing cars from China's BYD.

BYD is the largest and most profitable of the Chinese EV automakers. It is also a battery manufacturer. It doesn't directly import to the US, but has deep inroads in many other parts of the world and is giving Tesla a serious run. At $34/share BYDFF, could give great returns on a modest investment

I'm no tsla fanboi, pretty far from it, but I think they will be a major player in the future when 90% of vehicles sold are ev. But those who believe they will be the dominant player by far, seem to not understand the deep market holding power and "penetration" of Ford and GM (and the non-us based manufacturers, too).

Brother says he won't be surprised if it closes tomorrow up 50-100 points, by the end of the week maybe up 200 points from current, by earnings report it will probably break all time highs (maybe $1300 to $1400 or more). But none of this is said with the kind of certainty that he would take advantage of in the near term like day trading (which he doesn't do) or short term options.

People are concerned about the recycling, all the batteries can be completely torn down and all the rare earth metals reused, tesla cofounder JB Straubel has started a company called Evergreen, and they do exactly that. Most old car batteries can be reattached to be used for stationary home batteries.

as Ombligo points out and Ken Sp. the other day, batts. Have a family member working with GM on just that. I hope the smart $ will be alt energy. Non fossil energy better be the near future.

GM and Ford won't last through the decade without another bailout or two. VW might make it, but they'll be a shadow of their former self, but only if they make big changes far faster than they're accustomed to. Hyundai just announced that they've shuttered their entire ICE R&D center. 12k jobs. That's the sign of a company that understands what's coming and how to adapt.

It happened once, twice .... No doubt that will happen again.

VW might make it, but they'll be a shadow of their former self, but only if they make big changes far faster than they're accustomed to.

I think those changes are underway. VW seems to prove its resilience even after "scandals".

Hyundai just announced that they've shuttered their entire ICE R&D center. 12k jobs. That's the sign of a company that understands what's coming and how to adapt.

Hyundai is definitely turning into an elephant in the room. And since, in Korea, giant corps are the gummint ...

After getting crushed in 2 Asian cars in the 80s (I do miss the steel of the 60s when you could hit a tree, back up and drive home. Not that I ever did that...), I went Euro and hadn't looked at anything else until 2015. The Hyundais keep getting more impressive. The new Tucson and Santa Fe PHEVs are pretty sweet on paper (now that all the vehicles around me are SUV types and way fewer sedans). And way less expe$ive than their Euro equals.

$1580....
That's what I need. If it hits my "Sell" at $1580, I sell half my shares, pay off my mortgage, and that opens up the possibility of being able to retire one day.

Or I'll pay off 3/4 of my mortgage and take out a HELOC to do some upgrades... and roll the rest of the TSLA profits into Starlink if it goes public in the next couple years.

One way or another, it opens up possibilities!

New "house shopping" criteria - download the Starlink App, and make sure you have "clear sky" where Starlink needs it. Very easy to use (open app, point phone at sky, look at phone... shows a picture of clear/obstructed areas).

Bang! It did in the very last minute (3:59 ET) of the regular trading day! In mid-February when the market dips I’ll buy in again although more likely AAPL. At this moment I’m mostly cash, and given that we are now both retired, cash is good.

Considering that Tesla has nothing to do with Starlink (SpaceX does)... never directly. Now, threatening to "nationalize" the Tesla factory if Starlink doesn't get "filtered"? Could happen... but, I think Starlink already has agreements to put region-specific filtering on the service anyway... (that's off the top of the head, so, do your own research, I could be wrong).
