Most EVs are still just toys for the rich, but I've got high hopes for the Ford Maverick Hybrid. I know it's not a full EV but that's not a good go-to where I live and the price is quite good.

I think the next four or five model years we'll finally see regular EVs in the realm of "regular" pricing.

It does look like a good starter.
We've never been Forders, Chevy when it comes to trucks.
But I will prolly look at it in person when the weather gets warmer.

I've got no loyalty to any nameplate in regards to auto buying.

My formative driving years were the late 70s into the early 80s when a lot coming out of Detroit was not good at all. Drove a Chevy, a Buick, and a Ford; all were not the best.

My first non-American vehicle was a Nissan King Cab (before they got the "Frontier" name). Never a problem with it; drove it for 160k miles & then sold it to my uncle, who drove it for another 100k, then sold it to my other uncle. Got flooded (as in, completely submerged) by Katrina in 2005. He drained everything, new fluids, plugs, etc.; it started right up. "Smells like hell but it runs," was his quote.

I'd give Chevy a full look for something EV or HV if it were in the realm of working-person reality re/pricing, but $105k? @#$%& them.

Too rich for my blood! However, the Silverado EV Work Truck at $39,900. is where I would go.

I've always went with the WT Model, whether it's a GMC or Chevy.

I'm partial to regular cab trucks, (no rear seat) but it doesn't look like one is in the lineup.

I do wish the manufacturers would put out something other than a crew cab. I understand why they do and they appeal to many, but there are those who just need a regular or extended cab with a longer bed.

I expect we will see an EV Maverick in 3-4 years. Given Maverick sales, you can also expect GM, Nissan, Toyota, Isuzu, and others to be working on competing models right now. Hyundai missed the boat with its ICE only Santa Cruz. People want a pickup to reasonably look like a pickup. I was surprised that GM designed the truck to resemble the failed Avalanch or first edition Honda Ridgeline.

I agree. EV pricing needs to be way more affordable for us only average bazillionaires.

From what I have read, manufactures make an average of 5% on a new car and the dealer $1000-$2000, depending.
If that beast costs GM $95k to make, then perhaps Mary and some of her buddies ought to take a salary cut. Yes, I know, R&D. But still.

just realized the AWD Maverick changes to an EcoBoost ICE instead of the PHEV engine. Although I'm not off-roading, we occasionally get serious snow here. That could soon turn to serious flooding.

$105K for a GM truck. About $104,995 more than I'd pay for a GM.
I'd be curious to know how much of that truck came from PRoC.
They're doing it with the C8, so I'm sure it's happening with the rest of their line.

I was very interested in the Maverick. Finally one (sold) appeared at the local dealership a week ago. They also got a Ranger and I was able to look at both side by side; I think the Maverick is just not going to do it for me. I have to be able to carry a couple of bicycles and kayaks. I know I could work it out with the Maverick with carriers, but if I get a 2-door extended cab in the Ranger, it has a 6 foot bed and they will just stick in the back. If the Maverick would come in an extended cab it would probably be ok. But, at this point I'm going to wait for the redone 2023 Ranger and hope it comes hybrid (hopefully plug-in). If that happens I'll probably trade in my 2016 Tacoma and get the Ranger.

What did your first Mac cost?

All manufacturers are using parts from China, including European brands. Apple, too.

Note I stated "how much of that truck" because GM actually builds vehicles,
which used to be made in USA, in China and imports them.
Personal electronics are not the same as automobiles, so why compare a
$1K Mac to a $50k car? We're not talking LEDs & switches, entire module
components of GM vehicles are now made in PRoC. As for "European brands",
the only major automotive one I know of is Volvo and they are owned by a Chinese corp.

scared me to lease the '18 S90 for that reason. But I will say, very few issues with it and not major concerns.
The dealer is still trying to buy it back from me for 20% over book even though I turned in the lease in July.
