Letter opener that is 100% metal

Hi everyone,

I still receive envelopes, all of which need opening. So, for me, a letter opener is a must item. No, not the kind that looks like a dagger. They don’t work well for me at all. I use something along these lines:

The problem is durability. They're cheap pieces of crap and keep snapping. Doesn’t matter which brand or design. The letter opener snaps after X number of uses. Glueing it back together doesn’t work. Gorilla Glue. JB Weld Epoxy. JB Weld PlasticWeld. You name it. Still snaps. Very annoying.

There’s got to be someone out there that has made all metal versions of them.

Anyone know of a company that makes a letter opener in that type of design that is 100% metal. Not just the blade. The entire letter opener.

I don't, sorry...

But, it DOES give me an idea to do with some little off-cuts and end pieces of exotic woods in my toolbox.... Those, a jewelers saw, and some scalpel or exacto blades.

Hell, I may have to check on etsy to see if there's already someone making one...

Some of those are as cheap as $0.60/opener, and isn't the blade going to get dull after X number of uses anyway too? I say soldier on and just buy the cheapest ones and consider it a disposable product.

If you want long lasting, you may have to switch to the dagger style.

I'm very tempted to make one out of some scrap metal entirely, scrap metal and an X-Acto blade or a single-edge razor blade. Just didn't want to be bothered if someone already makes one.

Thank you for the suggestions. d4's idea is near perfect! If not, the device is easily modifiable to make it perfect. And, cheap enough that I can buy another to perfect if I modify the first until it's broken.
