So I changed the separation pad, and rollers for tray one and two.

Didn't solve the issue and made things a bit worse.

I tested with a definite single page pdf. Now it prints the page, picks up another sheet closely behind that comes halfway out as if it printed, and a third sheet which gets caught between the tray and the start of going through the path.

Again, I only sent a single page job to it in the first place.

Unless there are any more ideas, I think it may be time to replace the thing, and accept the chipped cartridge evil overlords.

If so, back to my original "new printer" question -
I know many here like Brother, so I've been looking at the HLL2370dn. Would this be the model most comparable to the HP I have? I've only had HP, so know nothing about the Brother line at all. How would the print quality compare?

And thanks for all previous and future help and suggestions.

I'm partial to Brother's for Laser printers. I've used them exclusively, and at pretty high volume. I just had one that started to have some roller issues.... but this was after 2 years of constant daily use for work from home. For $100 refurbished it was totally worth it. Just replaced it with the L2370DW (XL) which comes with a high volume cartridge, and a very-high volume cartrige.

The HP P2055dn is a basic B&W network laser printer. Nothing special about it. I have its little brother, the P2035N. Still going after all these years though it’s multifeeder snapped off and it loses its hardwire network connection occasionally. A restart fixes it. I haven’t gotten around to replacing it since its sole job is to print 8.5” x 11” sheets of labels. If I were to replace the P2035N, I’d look at the following:

Brother HL-23xxx series

HP LaserJet Pro M203dw Printer

HP LaserJet M209dwe Printer

Or something along the lines of the above.

These machines are all pretty similar. Basic single function B&W network laser printers with built-in hardwire and wireless networking.

The key difference is the initial cost and the cost of consummables.

I have a couple of Brother HL-2270DW models in continuous service. They’ve been rock solid basic laser printers. Dollar for dollar, they’re great bang for the buck.

Can’t complain about HP model with similar specs and features.

They are a “It just works” type of product.

The bigger issue you might face is obtaining one. Printers in this class are out of stock quite often in these days of the pandemic and so many people working from home.

I have one, I would say the print quality is comparable to most other inkjet out there. Mine has been relatively trouble three, and I spend next to nothing on ink. I love not buying cartridges!

Thanks for the rundown. I'm partial to laser printers over inkjet, so I will check out the differences.
