This just popped up on my screen

I've never seen anything like this:

I was reading a post and this "Your computer..." appeared. I clicked on show the report and got the other window. What's going on? I haven't clicked on anything else.

Why I needed a post to remind me of Buddy, I'll never know...

Command click on that folder icon in the eficheck-VERYLONGGUIDSTRING window... what's the path where that file's located?

Is/was a software update attempting to run in the background? Perhaps open Terminal.app and run ps axxx | grep oftware and see if any of the output lines look like legitimate software update processes.

Also click "Show Report" and copy out the text into a text file... that might be helpful (although it's usually not unless you're a developer who spends a lot of time reading panic logs and viewing backtraces in the debugger...)

Um, that is, assuming that's a legitimate window in the first place.

That does look like a legitimate error message, and the fact that it's an EFI dump... suggests there's a boot firmware problem? [www.enigmasoftware.com]

What model Mac and what OS?

21.5" iMac Late '12 2.9GHz i5 16GB running 10.14.6 when this happened.

BUT! I have just recently loaded Catalina on an external SSD HD:

It's reporting a mismatch between your firmware and OS.

When you install Catalina, it's supposed to update your firmware (and the firmware should be backwards-compatible with earlier OSes), but sometimes when installing on an external drive it will not successfully update.

So, I'd expect this to occur if you were booted to Catalina. Not to Mojave.

Has the message popped up more than once?

No. First time I've ever seen that message. Anything serious to worry about?

As a side note, since I loaded Cat on the external (I named it "Catalina"-clever, no?), there is a second hard drive icon named "Catalina-Data". Is that normal and does that have anything to do with the popup?

It's normal.

Each OS after 10.14 adds new APFS volumes, making it more and more complicated and less manageable when/if you boot into an earlier OS.

...Are you running with a boot-ROM of at least v292.0.0.0.0 (for a Late 2012 iMac model 13,1 per that page) ...?
