This is hard to write, and I debated about posting, but this is my virtual extended family, or that’s how it feels.
Today was a very tough day. My husband of almost 32 years died.
There was no notice or warning. We think he had a heart attack or his heart just stopped while he was sleeping.
It was a surreal day and I haven’t fully processed it all, but our daughter was able to get a quick flight home and is here with me now.
My husband had atrial fibrillation but it seemed to be under control. He had had it for many years and it was well monitored. He had other medical problems through the years, but he exhibited no obvious symptoms that anything was out of the ordinary recently.
He had gotten up before me this morning, as he usually did, and come downstairs to sit in his recliner. That’s where he was when I came down a little before 8am.
I thought he was just asleep, but he was gone.
In the grand scheme of things, there are far worse ways to go, but to say it was a shock to me is an understatement.
I have had good support from my friends and I will get through this, with the help of my daughter, but it is still hard to believe.
MRF has always been supportive and I felt the need to post.
His mother died five years ago yesterday and we were talking about that last night. He was 74, the same age my father was when he died suddenly.

For you and your daughter, you are right, this must be surreal. It is an unfortunately novel experience, that distorts the passage of time in an unpleasant way (I had my own sense of this when my dad passed away in 2019). And to add to this confusion and frustration as to how this could happen when y’all were doing everything from a monitoring point of view (yet I know it happens like this all too commonly).
