Argh! I usually give out the Google Voice number I have but I just absent-mindedly filled in my real number. It was a Gap card, and I saved roughly $25 for doing it that day. And now I'm getting many more spam calls every day (went from about 2 to 8, maybe). My parents get more, but they have a listed landline.

Makes zero difference if you give out your number or it’s listed or unlisted. The dialers that the scammers use will dial every number in an exchange.

you're not actually answering those calls are you? I always have my iphone set to send unknown callers straight to voicemail. few spammers leave a message.

No, not answering, but that doesn't solve the problem of receiving the calls. I can't set my phone to send unknown numbers to voicemail, as I do need to get calls from not-known numbers.

So do I but nothing that is mission critical and if it is I do turn it off for a while. Unknown calls are sent immediately to voicemail. You see a notification that the call came in but it doesn't ring. A real person will leave a message that I can respond to. If my work entailed taking lots of calls from unknown numbers I could see how that would be impractical.

Not exactly true. If it were, I'd get a ton of scammer calls. I'm very selective about giving out my cell number, and I get maybe 1 or 2 spam calls a week. Literally. I just checked my recent calls for the last month, and I had 5 calls that I didn't recognize and didn't answer.
