latest musical obsessions

I've been noticing some incredible (to me) Japanese musicians lately. Two different genres: Wagakki Band is rock/Japanese folk with traditional and contemporary instruments. all are excellent musicians, several have a side job teaching.
The other, totally different, is jazz pianist Hiromi. Insanely gifted and takes more pleasure in her work than anyone else i have ever seen.

Wait til beni comes on with her shamisen.

Hope you enjoy.

Wagakki Band are pretty cool, never heard them before. Thanks for posting!

Hiromi’s smile and exuberance when playing is totally captivating. I love this performance with Simon Phillips and Anthony Jackson:

really glad I did - I was a little bored until then.

What a great band! That second piece was wild. Really enjoyed it.

And jazz piano trio is NOT my thing these days, but THAT trio was amazing. Wonderful composition and that improve was amazing. The drums and piano had a mindmeld going at times.

that was some great music there - thanks

Hal, check out other Wagakki band videos. They have a lot of energy. i think they are more like a Broadway production than a rock band. Highly choreographed, excellent musicianship, a production rather than a concert. But i find them highly entertaining—and Beni, if only I were 50 years younger!
