Zoom memorial service.

We had a small family Zoom service this morning for my husband. Neither of us were/are “religious,” but he was Jewish and we both knew and really liked the current Rabbi at the Temple where his parents were members, if only infrequent attendees. smiling smiley
I didn’t think I needed the Zoom service but the Rabbi did such a wonderful job and the non religious but ancient ritual aspect of it was truly meaningful. Very cathartic. Seeing his family and hearing some stories was also nice. It was better than an in-person thing, for me, right now. I am glad the bigger in-person “remembrance get together” will be a little while off. It gives me more time to process and get myself together.
Thanks again for all your support and kind words. I am truly fortunate to have this place and all of you.

Rhonda

That is good to hear Rhonda.

I attended a Zoom remembrance for a friend who was the second Covid death in my county. Close to two hundred people logged in and it was surprisingly good and heartfelt. Since most of us had worked with him, there was a plethora of funny stories…

So grateful that it was both meaningful and a bit easier on you. Thanks for being such a role-model of grace.

Hi Rhonda,

I actually looked to see if Frank was listed on Dressler's Jewish Funerals website. They typically list the Zoom links as well. I've attended several Zoom services over the last couple years, from my Uncle, to parents of friends, and patients. Having that online support can be very helpful without the worry of spreading Covid.

All my best to you and your daughter. May his memory always be a blessing.

We had a family only Zoom service, so it could be more manageable.

I think the importance of ceremony is often misunderstood.

Marking of life's passages, including the final one, that is something worthy of our time.

Once again, I offer you my deepest sympathies. I hope these feeble words can assuage the grief even a tiny bit.

Good to know Rhonda.

If I may, I suggest you look for a support group to help you get through the next few months. Only those who have been through this loss can truly understand. Let them help you.

Good advice.
My neighbors, who experience a tragic loss of their son last year, have given me the contact info for the person who counseled them. I will be reaching out to him soon.

We attended one recently for my daughter-in-laws mom, who passed away suddenly. It really was a thoughtful and comforting service for her and her family. My mom lost my dad suddenly many years ago, he was 42. She had just had my sister 11 months prior besides having me and my two brothers to care for. I was 7 1/2 and saw the grief she experienced so I know a bit about how difficult it must be to loose your mate suddenly. She didn't have much of a support group back then and I know she would have really benefitted from having one but that wasn't really done at that time. Women were told to soldier on and handle their responsibilities.

I hope you find the support, understanding and kindness you deserve. Of course allow yourself time to grieve but also look to heal when you can. My deepest condolences and sympathies Rhonda.

Zoom is a blessing. When Mom passed this August, her funeral was streamed. A day later we had an “Irish wake” for her, including Irish Whiskey. It was super fun… we heard so many stories about her that we never heard growing up. My favorites were the ones about her year in Brazil with Dad and my older sister (who was a baby at the time, 60+ years ago) giving English classes to the young women in the village in exchange for fresh vegetables and the occasional chicken. And attending Mass in Portugese and Latin. And not realizing that some of the young women worked as “bar girls”… which my Dad’s brothers discovered when they came to visit….

Rhonda, my sincerest condolences. While it is important that you take time to be by yourself it is important to know you are not in this alone. I completely agree with Omgligo's comment about the importance of reaching out for support. Each person needs to find what works for them. I found that a counselor can be invaluable. I also found it incredibly helpful to be a part of a support group that was sponsored/lead by our local Hospice chapter ("grief and growth"). Being a part of a small group of people who were experiencing something similar to me, and who truly did get where I was at, helped so much. Sending a lot of positive thoughts your way.
