Best DVD reader for difficult discs?

Long shot but I'm wondering if there is an external DVD drive that is particularly good at reading difficult discs. I purchased a bunch of tv episodes that were burned to Smartbuy DVD+R 16X 120 discs and I'm having trouble reading them. I might have to just request a refund but I'd like to get the tv episodes! Right now I'm using a LG RW/DVD GCC-4241N (purchased from our sponsor) and I think the drive is fine. Any recommendations?

Ukulele music I couldn't find anywhere else.

If they were burnt at max speed on mediocre media, they just might not work.

I honestly think only in one set of circumstances have I burnt at max speed, and that was back in 2007/8 for a big duping job.

If that matters.

I didn't see any new, though AMZ said 17 in stock.

Yes, so that's 17 in stock from the seller "TechDealerUS" for $59.80, in "Used - Like New" condition, fulfilled by Amazon (which means the seller shipped it to Amazon's warehouses and Amazon will take care of shipping it to you as well as any customer service issues).

We've got a pile of optical drives, and every now and then we've had to play musical drives to get one that works properly with a given disc. I haven't found a specific one that works best overall; it's just based on the luck of the burn.... I sense that some read some burns better than others, so it's trial and error to find the right combo for the disc at issue.

Yes, and I'm 0 for 2 from AMZ's Warehouse 13, so I'm loath to deal with the potential agita of having to return an item.

I have an OWC that I'm not using anymore but not sure who made the drive. Need to get rid of it, it's at least 10-15 years old. I just looked up my old orders and got this "OWC Mercury FW/USB2 D112 DVD+/-RW no S/W". It was bought new in 12/2007. I went to a Pioneer USB powered Blu-Ray drive some years ago.

Sony Optiarc used to be a great name in reading tough-to-read optical disks. I do not know about Mac compatibility, though - I've never used one.

I have 2 of them Sony Optiarcs in my MP3,1.
Can't read nothing. Gonna swap out for the one in my MP1,1. It read 45s in the right light.

Thanks for the advice. I ordered one of those drives and will report back the results.
