Huh. MSFT announces intent to acquire Activision at $95/share

…ATVI currently $84, and drifting down (albeit up from a previous close of $65). It’s not a hostile takeover; Activision's current CEO will stay on during the transition.

What am I missing? I kinda doubt antitrust folks will have much interest in this.

Some details:

Quote

Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft will pay $95 in cash per share for Santa Monica, Calif.-based Activision. The deal is valued at $68.7 billion, inclusive of Activision's net cash.

Microsoft expects the acquisition to close in its fiscal 2023, which begins July 1.

95/83 (current price) = 14% gain, if the deal goes through, maybe sometime in the next 6+ months.

Buying some call options.

I kind of hope the deal falls through given the history of how gaming companies acquired by MS fare afterwards.

I know Activision has been around forever, but what makes them worth over 68 billion?

Not a real gamer, so I don't keep up with the latest and greatest, but damn!!

If you look at the Activision IPs (below) there's a lot of income generation.

One step further away from being able to respond nimbly to changes in gaming tastes and tech. There's a lot of grumbling in the Blizzard community about life under Activision.

From what I've read so far today, Activision/Blizzard will continue to operate autonomously, at least for now.

I view it as bad because M$ recently bought Zenimax (Bethesda, id Software, Arkane). They will own a very large part of the gaming market, but I don't expect most Apple users will care much since few of those companies had important games for iOS.
