Amazon Prime price increase

Reports that Amazon may raise the price of Prime later this Spring. No report on the amount but many are saying that they'll drop the service at $150

We shop enough with Amazon to where we’ll probably keep it.

Got a couple more years of "gift" subscriptions left (plus all of this year) before I have to worry about it... One could say that buying a bunch of $79 gift subscriptions (and a $99 one when The Grand Tour debuted) way back when has "paid" off, but in reality, I'd probably be much farther ahead if I'd put it in Apple stock!

Well, that is beginning to push it, but I'll probably stay on. If anything, I'll let the sub lapse, then pick it up a few months later when I really need something fast. Taking a couple months off saves the difference between the old and the new price.

I foresee an increase in "EDU" subscriptions.

I hate price increases, but I get a ton of my orders next morning or next day. No extra charge.

I can't think of any other service where I wouldn't spend more.

I’ve begun to question the value at the current price, especially given that some of their prime video programming is still on a weekly release schedule. Inertia kept me subscribed this year, but any significant increase, and I’d probably cut my subscription by half or more next.

I just cancelled my sub about an hour ago! But, I only had it since before the holidays, and even that was sort of a mistake.

from 1/1/03 to 12/31/14, $2900 in round numbers. not including tax.
2015 - $1100
2016 - $1027
2017 - $1455
from 1/1/18 to 12/31/21 we have dropped $5200 in round numbers into beezees pockets.

say $12000 in 18 years. I'd bet 5% of that (if not more) would have been shipping. $600.

Looks like I joined Prime in 2015. I'd guess ~$600 for Prime. Watched some stuff. Shipped some stuff.

Dunno. Finding myself trying harder to find other sources, but some stuff ....

Most of the time, don't care about next day, but some things ....

at least it's not cigs or bud.

My wife watches a lot of Prime video and between the two of us, probably order an average of about 1 item every other day or so. So we'll probably keep our subscription.

Everywhere else offers free shipping cause amazon compels them.

$150 is $11 a month in free shipping.

My wife watches a lot of AmazonTV. So the shipping is free to me.

Maybe if the ever get back to 1-2 day shipping, with processing immediately, instead of when they get around to it.

If you don't order from them often, would make sense.

I mean you could possibly find most of the deals at Walmart, target, newegg, or other places that don't have a subscription price. amazons inventory is impressive tho.

I order a lot from AMZ.

A recent order of some smallish item from another company cost me $7.95.

One item.

Suddenly $11/mo doesn't look so bad to me.

Several of my orders come from a warehouse just a couple cities south of me, and get next day delivery, no charge.

Most are two-three days, within the window stated prior to pressing Place Order or whatever, so I know what I'm getting.

I never pay for shipping from AMZ.

If it's going to take 4-6 days, that's what it'll take.

I think Prime shipping (for whatever that may mean these days) is free for non-Prime members for purchases $35 and over, barring some kind of AMZ promotion.

A lot of my items may be $4-6, still often delivered in 1-3 days, and if longer, that's know before forking over my money.

The N95 mask deal for $17/20 took 5 days.

AMZ sent an email updating the 3-4 day time to 6-7 or more, but they got here sooner.

It's not perfect, but economically, I can live with it for awhile.

Hi everyone,

Just food for thought before you dismiss Amazon Prime as too expensive. Many people don't realize just how much you get for your dollars with Amazon.com. The shipping benefits just scratch the surface of it.

The key to getting your money's worth out of Amazon Prime is taking advantage of the benefits. Nothing is worth the money if you don't use it. In the case, of Amazon Prime, i bet many only use a limited number of the benefits. Delve into it and you might be surprised at how much you're getting for the dollar. It may even get to the point that the savings actually makes the membership pay for itself and then some.

It's been true for years, but lately when I look at tire prices for some consumables, like cleaning products or auto related fluids, the local shops are less expensive. Sure,n there is convenience, but I'm finding myself just traveling to Auto Zone or Target.

Kind of a nitpick, but the Slickdeals article is misleading regarding getting free music through Prime. You only get a small subset of Amazon's music streaming service, if you want to get the whole catalog, you have to pony up money by subscribing to Amazon Music Unlimited.

If they were to sweeten the price increase deal to include Music Unlimited, then I'd be all in.

Sam,

Why is it misleading? The article never said you get the full compliment of Amazon's media. FWIW, even a subset of Amazon's music streaming service is a significant amount of music. Just like Prime includes only a subset of Amazon's video content. You want to the full package, it isn't unreasonable for Amazon to ask you to pony up the bucks for it.
