I watched that recently. I absolutely love a beautiful piece of finished wood. I would love a live edge mantle piece and dining room table.

I know a custom stock maker that I have purchased 4 rifle stocks from. I only have 2 rifles that will fit them. It's the 21st century. Nothing wrong with admiring another man's wood.

I also have a massive slab of mahogany I am waiting on just the right project for. I'm thinking of mirror image rifle stocks for my right handed rifle, and my partner's left handed rifle. Split the slab down the middle and match the grain.

Nice! I made a pair of similar mantles for our living room and in-law unit a few years ago, We picked up a huge piece of old growth redwood with partial live edges from up near Mendocino. Mine wasn't finished as perfectly as his, but it still came out really nicely. Getting it close to square was a royal PITA since I didn't have quite the range of very large tools that he did.

I have a pair of American Elm logs that are now dried and I really need to do something for them… from a tree that fell in my back yard and just missed the house. The wood is so tight and interlocked…
