In your defense, the way they keep shoving the Prime sign-up checkbox at you with every order, it's easy to misclick in a moment of distraction.

A few years ago, I inadvertently signed up for Amazon Prime. I unsubscribed almost immediately to make sure I didn't miss opting out before the month of "free" was out. It wasn't too long after the end of the month that I was getting offers from Amazon for another "free" month. For me, lesson learned to be more careful when checking out of Amazon (and other on-line companies) and fortunately the lesson didn't cost me a dime.

Make sure there's no autopay at the end of the free period.

Whenever you order something they basically opt you in to a free month trial of Prime and it's very easy to click without realizing. (check the shipping options) They almost got me but I realized at the last second and cancelled the transaction.

Anyway no harm, no foul. Just cancel before the month is up.

There is, but they send an email notifying you. I use the post it note on the calendar method. I take advantage of the free offers.

When ever they offer me free membership I use it until the last week and then cancel. After I did that a couple of times they stopped offering me free memberships.

I blame pilot error here...

I just tried to make a purchase on AMZ and when I clicked 'proceed to checkout', I was sent to a page that asked if I wanted to get Prime... if you're on autopilot, you might just click the yellow button to move along...

They do everything possible to trick people into inadvertently signing up for Prime; no error on your part, you did exactly what they wanted you to do.
