Approximate expectation of delivery of refurb mac from Apple Store?
Posted by: CW2V

Need to get a new iMac in the graphic house this week, ASAP. Having the Mac in hand and running by this Friday is paramount, (unfortunately). This means I might not be able to get the specs I want if it can't be in hand by Friday.cursing smiley

Anyone have any recent purchases go through the refurb store? What was the delivery time?

TIA

if you absolutely have to have something, order 2 different machines. One that is the one you actually want, and one that you *know* will arrive in time. You'll get a machine in time, and you can always switch to the other if needed. Then, after the dust settles, just return the one you don't need. (assuming order from Apple)

Why not just check the refurb store itself? That would give you a more accurate estimate than past performance.

Yeah, it's showing 2 day turnaround and I've got a plethora of choices.

So if that is true, I just need to convince boss man that i9 > i7 > i5. Been stuck with i5's for the past 5 years because its what they had ready to go at the brick and mortar. We don't think ahead here. Well, I do, but i don't run the circus.

But with the multiple refurb choices available, I may be able to get a machine that can handle a normal work day.....

A man can dream.

Ordered a Mini refurb on 12/02 shipped from Fontana, CA. Apple used
UPS Next Day Air*. Got it @ 10AM ET on 12/03 (Delaware).
I wasn't charged extra for the NDA.

*think they used NDA because of the 'holiday shipping' ?

Working with the big three Adobe apps, PS, AI, ID. Design and Pre-press. Speed is key.

In your, the "Forumites" opinion, which would be better:

i7 with Radeon Pro 5700

i9 with Radeon Pro 5500 XT

Both about the same price, with the same RAM, HD +/-.
Will be adding RAM after the fact.

Current machine is 2017 Retina 5k 3.8 i5 with Radeon Pro 580. Running a second 27" monitor. Screen redraw has been a major issue.

I haven't ordered from the refurb store for quite a while, but it was always prompt and as promised.

I'm in Columbia, SC. Looking at the refurb page - an M1 iMac will get to me tomorrow for $8.

Not here to diagnose. But if the 2017 is having a problem with that screen the it’s prob not the iMac. My 2014 runs 2 additional screens totally fine. All the CC apps.

I doubt you will see any diff between and i9 and i7 if it’s print.

64 gb ram is the sweet spot.

If I was ordering today, i7, 5700, 1 TB (whatever drive you need) and 64 GB ram. Assuming no files stored on the imac?

Running with dozens of files open, would start getting "inception" like images in Photoshop, where the main image open in PS would show up as dozens of smaller versions of itself on the screen, all over the screen. Would get spinning beachballs for any simple action such as selecting an object or zooming in. Illustrator, Photoshop, didn't matter. Main screen at 3200 x 1800, second monitor (thunderbolt display) at default 2560 x 1440.

Work flow dictates work done NOW, so never anytime to pull over and try to fix whats wrong. Just run Onyx every week or two when it just gets unbearable. No real IT for the desktop Macs.

Ehhh... It's going to be someone else's problem as it is getting passed down to a new hire.

I'm getting a 2020 i7 3.8 with the Radeon Pro 5700 XT, and maxing out the RAM through OWC.

If i still have problems, we'll know its the nut behind the wheel.

Max ram, 128 GB, might not be the best option.

You should replace the cable at a minimum.

Im sure I don't stress CC like you do, but I too have a dozen ID files, half dozen PS files, dozen Acroabt, and handful of AI files open, plus 3 browsers and hundreds of tabs. All 3 screens are good.

3200 x 1800 is sooo small! =)
