Officially it isn't, but there is a loophole. Simply moving that VIN plate to another car that already has it's own VIN number is highly illegal, a felony. Unscrupulous people will do this in order to turn an everyday base model into a fake version of highly sought-after limited editions.Quote

That'll buff right out.
Unfortunately, I suspect the only value left in this car is its VIN number, which will likely find it’s way to another car.
Didn't know this was allowed.

However, brand new bodies are available for a handful of popular cars, '67 and '68 Mustangs for sure, possibly '67 and '68 Camaros too, as replacement parts for wrecked or rusted original bodies. Legally this is seen as no different than replacing a fender or headlight because these bodies have no VIN of their own.

The fiberglass fenders and hood used by Shelbys are burnt away, but everything else seems to be there. Clearly the car would require a "down to the metal" restoration and replacement hood, front fenders, and trim for 69/70 Shelbys might be challenging to find, but it isn't entirely gone.Quote

If you look at the photos on the auction site, the front end is worse than the rear. Looks like not much salvageable.
