Edger Won't Start

Well, it started, but when I started to cut a little it would stop. Then it did it again.

I checked the spark plug, cleaned, filed, replaced. Used Starting Fluid, no kick at all.

Now I get nothing.

Cleaned the air filter, took off the Carb, cleaned outside, Emptied the gas by draining the line to the carb. It was a yellow/gold color, not like the new I put in, after.

Is there a way to check the spark at the Plug?. , was thinking of getting a new spark plug, and hoping that grounding apparatus at handle isn't mucking things up, but my guess is the carb may be stuck up internally with gas that has ethanol it it. Even though I use that additive that helps prevent that.

Thought of how to check for spark, and then... do ?

Pull the air filter. Paper gets damp over time. Restrictive airflow.

Lay spark plug on good ground and crank. Look for spark. Can you smell gas?

You have sludge in the carb because gas treatment doesn’t prevent that. It only slows it down.

“ Emptied the gas by draining the line to the carb. It was a yellow/gold color, not like the new I put in, after. “

I use Sea Foam in old gas situations.

Yes, to check the spark, pull the spark plug; Is there a strong odor of fuel?

Turn off fuel valve; if there are strong gas fumes, turn the motor over several times with fuel and ignition off.

Then with the ignition switch on and the base of the spark plug grounded to the block, turn it over and look for spark. Easier in a dark place.

Do you buy premixed gas or mix your own? If the later, stop now as it's not worth the headache. The premix uses alcohol free gas which will prevent future problems.

At this point, you will probably need to disassemble the carb, clean it and reinstall it.

I read this as "Edgar won’t start", and I assumed that was the name of your snowblower. Carry on.

Seafoam does not undo the evils of bad gas. You have to get all of the old gas out of the system, clean it out, and put in new gas. That's where he Seafoam comes in (marginally) useful.
