iHome mouse just kicked the bucket

IH-M808OO

The red light is still on but no cursor on screen and the device does not show in the system profiler anymore.

Probably 10ish years old now. Just as well I suppose since there was no more software support for it, so only the scroll wheel and L/R click did anything.

What do you all like for wired mice? I've not been happy with the magic mice in the past, too finicky with the touch surface.

Those OG (pre-Logitech G) optical MX510 & MX518's are worth some serious coin. When the new again Logi-G laser MX518 came out (2019?), I bought 3 of 'em w/ a 30% off coupon.... or $42/ea.. $30 is a freaking steal right now. Great all purpose mouse, and retains profiles on board so you can move it from machine to machine and keep your settings.

Found it!

Logitech Performance MX:

Much larger and heavier than the iHome. Seems to work well in Monterey with no additional drivers. Only button that does not do anything is the one at the far left under the thumb.

The RF mode of BT/RF mice seems to work better than the BT mode. be it the antenna location in the computer, relative signal strength of the two signals, or passive or active interference of them.

I got two $20 mice that work better on RF than BT, and work well.

Unfortunately, no software shipped with it, and the OS doesn't support it completely, so it's a very basic mouse with Left and Right click, and scroll, and maybe two buttons unsupported.

But then a bought a Kensington Orbit wireless trackball, and its software was minimal, a poorly developed version of MouseWorks.

It looks as though whatever Kensington calls it these days, it's the same software for all of its mice and trackballs, and it's pretty poor.
