Could never get past the dichotomy between the 6'8" linguistic Reacher, the one with hands the size of dinner plates, and the 5'7" (or is it 4'11") Tom Cruise Reacher.

Haven't seen the new Amazon series, any good?

that's often mentioned, but TC did a great job evoking the character. Ive seen the new guy in stuff, hers ok, a little too pretty, hope he has the same energy, new guy is 6' 3' 230.

problem with a 6' 5" 250 pound guy is that no one would mess with him, and sticks out like a sore thumb. you don't pick fights with peeps bigger than you, and 65/250 is bigger than most all.

he was described like a romance novel hero -- similar to the authors stats.

I watched the movies w/o being familiar with the books, so it never bothered me.

But I understand. Never bought Willem Dafoe as Mr. Clark in the Clancy movies.

Like most book-to-movie franchises, a lot of movies are truly "based on the novel by..." and loosely is the key word.

I like the Reacher series although a couple books are quite grim. I thought Cruise did an OK job of it but a part of the storyline uses Reacher's size in the plots.

I also like the jumping back to the past in some of the series to flesh out Reacher's character.

Haven't bought the latest book yet tho...

This new incarnation is expectedly disappointing.

The new guy can't act, at least in Reacher.

Three episodes in, and his movements and dialogue are wooden.

Partly the fault of how the character is written for this series, and partly because the actor has no charisma, and tries too hard to be to cute, Reacher falls short of Jack Reacher.

I get that he's supposed to be taciturn, but this guy presents it as an affectation and not part of his nature.

His swing from 'clever' to bad-ass is too forced.

It feels to me like the casting director sought out an MMA fighter who might come close to being an actor.

The guy has a bit of a resumé, so I'd expect him to be better than this, so far.

A better casting would have been Denzel Washington, but then he too wouldn't fit the books' description.

But he would deliver a really good performance.

I like the two other leads a lot, as they do a great job of giving their characters much more life and energy.

And he walks funny, certainly with no military bearing.

His martial arts choreography is ok.

Having read Killing Floor and one other Reacher book, I'm not impressed with the writing.

All I really recall is multiple references of Reacher's height, etc, and I was 'Enough already' before the end of the first book.

So he fits fans' Tough Guy image better, and for some viewers that will good enough.

Maybe he'll get better as the series goes on.

Or maybe it'll be another Without Remorse performance.

Denzel would have been good in that too, much better than the lead.

I don't know if he could have pulled off a lot of physicality, and nail guns aren't part of a SEAL's TOE.

But I'd have actually enjoyed Remorse.

"Just remember, you asked for this."

Yes, Cruise did a much better job.

I both enjoy this stuff, and think it's perverse.

It's all about constructing a situation in which the hero is justified in beating the cr@p out of people and/or killing them. While I'm a bit addicted, I think having those images in my head is not good for me.

And about the deputy...

I really liked the scene where she's in the motel room with Reacher, wandering around in a shirt an underwear, totally unconcerned with any sexual consequences, and that it didn't end in a 'romantic' moment.

Too often writers through sex into the mix too soon, and when timing is off, any 'romance' comes off as gratuitous.

And Reacher wanderer, and hit and run would be beneath my idea of a decent guy.

I do like the idea of her being the grown up of the three.

A little predictable, but still well done.

Bingeing vs. Binging: Which Spelling Is Correct?

To binge means to overindulge, usually for a brief period. Both binging and bingeing are acceptable, according to dictionaries. However, around 1980, retaining the E became distinctly more popular than dropping it, according to Google Ngram Viewer.

And this Reacher comes off to me as 6’3”, 230 and knows it all too well. Not my cup of tea.

Ok, I've watched the first episode. It's ok, i'm fast forwarding through most of it. I'll probably watch the rest of the series the same way.

It's better than average for Amazon, which isn't a high bar. The acting is a bit more than adequate. And the Black detective, I swear, looks like Billy Crystal in his younger days.

Just caught the first two episodes and agree the lead male actor (no idea of a name) left acting school a few credits short, lead female actor was more accomplished.
