World's Blackest Black Paint... On A Car?

What does it look like when the black paint that absorbs +/- 99% of light gets applied to a car?

Also, what does it look like when you spray a sparkly Hypershift additive over that?

Not a car that you want to drive around in at night. Not in sunshine either since it'll probably get ultra hot inside.

Is it also a radar absorbent material?

wish my old darkroom walls were that dark. I did 3 coats of flat black, and it was really dark grey with a low sheen. With the high speed film I used, it was enough to base fog the film when loading into the tanks.

Agree with the retired davester and the video producer, not practical at all.

Fascinating though. Excellent reminder of how highlights reveal surface contour…

I have enough trouble finding my MINI is a parking lot. Don't need to have it hiding any more than it does.

If you ever want a really dark saturated color in wall paint, you need to use a brand that utilizes a clear, or clearer base. The brands that use a base that still has a lot of titanium (white) in the base, the cheaper brands, usually, will never have the depth and saturation that a clear base has.
The old Ralph Lauren brand used a clear base and you could get really nice deep saturated darks.
Just a fun fact. grinning smiley

funny, I have been wondering if we'd ever see exactly this situation at some point. it's incredible, but I would think stupid in the end, as anyone who hit the car would claim that they didn't see it, and if taken to court, they may have a winning case!

The guys black shirt in the first video is a dead giveaway. They obviously color graded the footage to make the blacks way blacker than normal.

I don't think Musou or Black 3.0 will be massively hotter than a good flat black, maybe 7 °F hotter interior. Sunlight only contains so much energy. It's not sucking raw energy out of the ether. The difference between a regular flat black and an ultra-black paint is on the order of absorbing 93% of light versus 97.4% - 99.95%. Another issue is if it works better as a black box radiator of infrared energy.

I did my own tests about fifteen years ago. Two nearly identical cardboard boxes, first painted grey primer then two coats of test color. White was 20 °F hotter than ambient air temp. The brightest silver/aluminum car paint that Kragen was 32 °F hotter than ambient.

Racerx, why don't you process your film and light-sensitive materials using loader bags?

They consist of nothing more than roomy bags for loading your developer, developing cans, and film prior to opening up the latter. They zip up to provide a light-proof and portable way to process film. You can access all of the latter through long sleeves in the bag with elastic around the sleeves to make them light-tight.

Google film developer bags.

In fact, they've got whole portable bag-like, draped portable "closets" for developing paper and handling other light-sensitive materials now, a radical departure from what was available when I was into photography "eons" ago.

Ah, the days when low-riders were plentiful and U-Haul places were nervous.

Now, as for that ultra bat-fuzz black, I wonder what that would look like with 20-40 coats of clear paint on top of it.

(Thank you, George Barris.)

we went digital. We did use a black cloth draped over the enlarger head as a "tent" when loading the film into the tanks. We even needed to load some of the cameras in the bathroom with the light out, as the "light tight" film canisters the film shipped in weren't light tight to OUR specs.
