Recently widowed friend is considering going in match.com. Other than scammers, etc, does anyone have any experience or insight?

Anyone dating online these days (and not only online) should watch Tinder Swindler on Netflix. Seriously.

I’ve told her about scammers, etc. and not sharing personal info. Also about picking a very public spot for a first meeting. I will have to help her research possible matches as she’s not tech savvy. Was wondering more about personal experience with Match as it seems more geared to relationships and not hookups.

I’ve been hearing Bumble is better.

I was in a similar situation 9 years ago. I found eharmony to be much better than Match. com, mainly because of its customizable filters.

I'd guess that MOST (95% at least) are scammers of some sort. "older" folks generally know how to spell, write a coherent sentence and are familiar with rules of grammar. Quickly checking on these points can help eliminate a large percentage of said scammers. When she inevitably runs into scammers, recommend that she report them to site managers (who sadly often don't really care as long as they get a paid member). All that said, if she does NOT live in a MAJOR metropolitan area, pickings / matches are likely to be VERY slim.

I expect she would do better volunteering locally at a cause she cares about. If she meets a potential suitor that way, at least they'll start with something in common.

I've been widowed for nearly 10 years now. I was married for 28 years. I tried online dating, but didn't have much luck. Some widows list themselves as single, so as not to scare anyone off. Sometimes they do that to avoid scammers as well. I did list my status as widowed. There was a lot of interest, but nobody that I was particularly interested in. I did go out on a few dates with women that I met on Match.com. Eventually I decided that online dating wasn't for me. I decided that I would rather just meet women in more natural settings. Introductions from friends, volunteer work, meetup groups, to name a few.

I have many a friend who is widowed. I've done a bunch of volunteer work trying to help those who are more recently widowed. From my experience, I think that there's a lot to be said for widows & widowers dating each other.

She already does a bunch of volunteer work. However, it's mostly with other women and the few men aren't single or of interest.

Why judge someone? FYI - She wasn't widowed last week, month or year. And her kids told her that they were ok with her meeting someone if she wanted to as they're concerned about her being lonely.

My mom remarried after dad died. They made it to 21 years before she passed away. Why would I care? It's not like he was my "dad" and I was going to live with him.
