Electric kettle recommendations?

I love having one of these, especially due to the auto-off feature. I never have to check that I turned off the kettle on the stove. They are quick and neat, too. I got one a few years ago, and the plastic ended up feeling and smelling hot. I then got a Kalorik one that, about 8 months later, won’t usually turn on as if it’s not in the base fully. If you wiggle it, it may turn on, but also could turn off without boiling as if it was removed (nothing touched it). It’s aggravating and I’m not sure the company will stand behind, it, even with my video demonstration. There is no debris or damage on the base or kettle.

We just bought the truck, so I’m trying to not spend money. If I buy a new one, does anyone have one they especially recommend? I appreciate it when they light up, so I can tell when the water has boiled or not… I don’t want any audible signals. I’ve seen some attractive modern ones lately, which is fine, but our house is the opposite of modern.

I’m mostly looking for long lasting, reliable, and fast - not too much money(well under $100 would be good). Thanks!

This is what you are looking for....

[smile.amazon.com]

I've had 2 (my wife broke the first banging the glass into something). It has a blue light that shows it is heating up, then turns off when it reaches max temp. Auto shut off. No other bells and whistles. And... only $35!

Looks great and nearly identical to the Kalorik I have! Have you had it a while without a problem? I don’t want to buy one every year, mostly for waste concerns.

The first one lasted 2-3 years until my wife cracked it, and the new one has been working perfectly for the last 2 years. Every 6 months or so, I get the scale off the bottom by boiling some vinegar in it, otherwise nothing to do to keep it working.

We like this one, have bought two, but we're cheapskates. No signal, light goes off when it's done. I wanted something without glass.

I like my glass one, but that would be fine, too. Has it lasted a while?

It ships in 1-2 months!

Oooh, fancy! I drink 1 French press cup a day, and my other half has tea when he’s home during the day, which isn’t often. I also use these to make boiling water for cooking pasta and steaming things. It’s so much faster than boiling a pot of water.

Recipe,

I have a basic Oster electric kettle. It has a light that displays when it's on and turns off automatically. No temp control. It's stainless steel. Just boils water and turns off. Easy open push button lid. Can't imagine it cost more than $30 to $40 about ten years ago. The closest thing to it these days is this model from Hamilton-Beach:

It's very basic. Wirecutter likes it, too.

Wirecutter likes this model form Cuisinart:

This is America's Test Kitchen's favorite:

This is another of their favorites:

In looking at all of the above, if I had to replace my Oster, I'd get the Hamilton-Beach. All I need is to boil water as necessary. No temp control. No gee-whiz features. I just want a kettle to make hot water and let me dispense it easily and safely.

Very helpful, thanks! I forgot about Wirecutter. I only have those same basic needs, too. Just boil and maybe hold a little. I am just gunshy because my last two have failed so quickly.

It is what it is.

It's not electric, but I've really come to appreciate the goose neck on the Hario V60 Buono stovetop model we purchased... 8 years ago according to amazon. Looks like there is a an electric model as well.

I like the electric version, but it’s a bit too small. Thanks!

The one I'm using has been running just fine for 10 years - Hamilton Beach model k24

I don't see it anywhere, but this is the latest version: [www.amazon.com]

it has a 1.7l capacity - there's another one with just 1l capacity that's only $25

1.7 is what I’m looking for. Ouch, they all seem to ship in 1-2 months! It sounds like Kalorik is going to give me a new one, but I have to ship mine back first - that’s going to take time and also money. I would buy another one in the meantime, but not one that will take that long to get here!

This is what Baby Buzz got for Mrs. Buzz after our old plastic one ceased to function properly.

Chefman seems to have variety of models, but I'm otherwise clueless about electric kettles.
Baby Buzz was proud of his purchase, and its hot tea making ability.

I have that one as well. I have to say I preferred my old Breville - my fat thumb keeps pressing "keep warm" by mistake so the kettle never really goes off.

Had two of these bodum kettles for a decade. No problems. And not breakable.
