As the article notes, solid-state (electrolyte) batteries should be in production vehicles by 2030.

IIRC, they'll offer about twice the capacity for the same weight/volume/cost as today's packs.

LFP only for me in the meantime.

Sorry, but apart from the small amount of cells in my laptop's battery I just can't trust nickel-cobalt-based packs.

I just wish we could get over the need-more-mileage mindset. Most of us, for most of our use, don't need even 100 miles per charge. But no, we need all the miles! Just like why so many people buy huge pickups but rarely use them to haul or tow.

I'd love to see more energy-dense batteries - mostly so it will get EVs lighter and help steal back some of the storage space that batteries take up.

But what we need even more is a better network of chargers. They should be EVERYWHERE. That's the best way to get rid of range anxiety.

With solid-state batteries I believe we'll see 100 miles per charge on even plug-in hybrids...that's what I plan to buy next.

I've been hearing in another 2-5 years for about 15 years now for so many energy storage ideas that I refuse to believe it until I can touch them and buy them.

I've been waiting on terrahertz imaging to replace x-rays since the 90's. Gotta be some serious behind the scenes @#$%& going on holding it back. Gotta be lobbyists and taxes.

I think I read they're selling very poorly. Which is too bad, because the concept is good (make something that fits most people's needs most of the time). BUT - the execution is pretty poor IMO - it's WAY too expensive, and the suicide doors and space utilization is not great. And my Honda Fit is faster 0-60.

Now, if they were selling them for $20k, that'd be another story.

IIRC the MX30 was described as "a California CARB-compliance vehicle."

Sure, at ~$20,000...
