MyChart woes - who's responsible?

We got a bill from the doctor, go online to pay it and it says we owe $0. Get another bill from the doctor, go online to pay it and it says we owe $0. Turns out the online billing system isn't showing the correct balance even though it has a pdf copy of the bill. Call the doctor's office - "its not our fault, call mychart" - I call my chart. You'll never guess what happens next. NEVER. They say its someone else's fault. I get sent somewhere else who probably shouldn't be involved at all (a hospital billing dept, the bill from the doctor is from a clinic thats associated in ways that aren't entirely clear to me).

Call the doctor's office again and they insist they have no responsibility for whats shown in the MyChart billing system and if I want it fixed I need to talk to someone else. At this point I explain that customers usually don't fix billing systems.

MAYBE someone here has some idea of how these systems work and where there might be a fault in the system. Clearly the doctor's clinic has _no_idea_.

Is the bill legit (despite what MyChart says)? Can you just go to the doctor's office to pay the bill in person? I'm sure they'd happily take your money.

That, sir, is not the problem.

But as you said, "At this point I explain that customers usually don't fix billing systems." So again, if the bill is legit, why do you have to pay it online through an obviously broken system?

Maybe cruise over to Verona and ask billionaire founder Judith Faulkner why her Epic Systems software sucks so bad…

I've used Epic since 2005. It is truly a love-hate relationship. It's has become plagued with bloatware-like addons in order to justify the cost and "upgrades." However, it is still one of the best EMRs out there.

To be clear, it might not even be Epic's fault. It could be the fault of another package that integrates with it. Thats mostly showing how little I know, maybe thats not even a thing.

Whoa - got an explanation -

The clinic uses mychart through a larger hospital. The hospital has its own rules about what can be billed. The particular diagnostic code was potentially covid related although not in this case. Anyway, printed bill works fine, hospital rules in MyChart swallow the bill. It will be fixed, our MyChart record will be fixed, and there aren't concerns about accuracy going forward.

PAY the $0.00 bill. Then their computer should stop harassing you. Make a print out SHOWING that you PAID the amount they requested. It’s NOT your fault if THEY “under bill” you. old fogey smiley
