Okay, I need some computer housekeeping help.

This is the problem with a rainy Saturday.

It all started with me trying to use Silverkeeper to backup my Quicken files and realizing it wasn't working. No real surprise there as I believe Lacie stopped supporting it in 2009. So in the process of looking (unsuccessfully) for a replacement for Silverkeeper, I fell into a rabbit hole.

I made the mistake of diving into my Documents folder trying to clean it out a bit to allow for some simpler and smaller backups. Jeebus. I have crap in there going back to 2005. And it's mixed in with much more recent stuff that I obviously want to keep. My thinking is to just create a folder on the Desktop called Archival or something and just drag crap into it as I see fit. Then I can use Dropbox or Box or iCloud Drive to deal with backups that I could somehow automate. Does that make sense or is there a better (simpler) way?

To be clear, I still regularly use TimeMachine (when I think of it) and CCC weekly for full backups.

Thanks.

Wurm,

The Finder has options in its Menu/tool bar (Group) to sort by a variety of methods. Why not start with that to do your house cleaning. We all need to periodically clean house.

I think I will just put an OUT OF ORDER
sticker on my head and call it a day.

I’m not sure what the question is?

Why not just leave TM running all the time? Let it do it’s job automatically.

Thanks. Yeah, good point about using Finder to just lump everything together older than a few years.

As for jdc's comment to Why not just leave TM running all the time? Let it do it’s job automatically., I don't even have a good answer for that. Especially now that I have another usb hub with open ports. facepalm
