I let the dogs out. Around 1971 our town built a new dog pound. The newspaper ran a play-by-play on its progress all summer. When they finally got it finished and were going to have a grand opening the next day, my friend and I went to see it. We felt sorry for the dogs and saw there were no locks on the cages, so we opened all the cages and let them run free.

In March 1982 I was driving along a residential area that of course had side streets crossing both ways. My direction had the right of way, only a flashing yellow light. The road that crossed over had a flashing red and a stop sign. I'm driving along and a van stopped at the red light, then proceeded to start pulling out right in front of me. I saw him and reacted by hitting the brakes and turned the wheel. I missed him completely but there was some wet sand in the intersection from a recent sanding, it was still winter. I missed him, but slid head on into the traffic light pole. Minor damage, 5 mph bumper of my 1981 did it's job, dented the bumper and cracked the grill.
Car was still drivable. I got an estimate, the other guy's insurance wanted to have their inspector look at it. Set that up for about a week later. In the mean time, I was driving on a twisty shaded road which apparently had something slippery on the road's edge. I turned, the car slid straight and bounced over a small divet for water run off.
When the inspector looked at the bumper damage from the accident, he said something like, "Oh my god, how did your repair shop miss this? The front end is off a full inch to the side. This whole front clip needs to be replaced."
I didn't say a word, let them fix it.
