My battery is overheating on my iPhone but ONLY ONLY ONLY and I cannot stress this enough ONLY when I play "Lily's Garden" or "Penny and Flo" (don't judge me). These are both games from Tactile. This wasn't the case before iOS 15.
To be clear, it isn't common for the "match game play" to cause it. Mostly it is the "story" part, which is a kind of animated movie so to speak. Then you go to the game and win stars in order to go back to the story and see what happens next. (I said don't judge me. lol)

I have already wasted too much of my life turning everything that Apple and Google has ever said could cause battery overheating, and trying every tip known to man. It is most definitely these two games and most definitely no tips or tricks solves it.

I am loathe to stop playing these two games as I find them very relaxing, but it is beginning to look as if I will have to.

I have one other "match and design" game from a different developer and it has NO PROBLEMS.
Is it possible that Tactile is screwing up how they make these apps?
OR is it possible that this is a bizarre coincidence?

My real question -- most importantly -- if I am playing one of these games and my iPhone overheats (which makes the game crash) is it hurting my battery?

I agree with AA on both counts.

From reading your post, it's a good bet it's an incompatibility with their software and the 'Phone's iOS, since it wasn't the case prior to iOS 15.

It may be code, good or bad, on the dev(s) part that wasn't a probably until iOS 15.

Or Apple might have done something unexpected that gave the dev(s) a WTF moment, though that seems so unlike Apple.

It may be a simple bug that'll be squashed with a game or iOS update.

If it's the latter, well...

You might try, if you haven't already, reading the games' reviews at the App Store to see if anybody else has the same or similar issue, and then make the rounds on the 'net regarding them.

Then follow rg's suggestion about contacting the dev(s) to see what they know.

This is not an uncommon issue. In fact manufactures make heat sinks for iPhone. Also if you use a case it will keep the heat in,

Absolutely not judging you since I play both of those games.

I have had different issues like that on my iPhone 7 at times with the games. The first thing the developers say is "Are you on the latest iOS?"

Since you are, I would contact them and let them know what's happening. They may have gotten other people telling them the same thing.

If the games are connected to iCloud or FB, your progress will be saved, if you need to delete for any reason.

I'll be curious to hear how this works out, as I'm still on iOS 14, and thinking of upgrading.

They have a customer support link in the game. Both games responded with a canned trouble-shooting list and 1,000 free "coins". lol

Basically, that trouble-shooting list is the same regardless of where I search. I've also turned off anything that any site lists as to what drains battery life. The only thing I haven't tried is a factory reset.

Some people are complaining about these two games on the app store -- but since they aren't required to give any information it's mostly "this game crashes all the time" and vague complaints like that, which don't really tell me much.

I should say Thank You to all of you for your input. I'm feeling kind of cranky about it at this point which may be obvious. Sorry.
