…and it was glorious. 4K restoration looked absolutely beautiful. Sound was amazing, too. What an experience!

This release is in celebration of the 50th anniversary of this movie and is accompanied by the release of all three Godfather movies on 4K Blu-ray. I’ll absolutely be purchasing the 4K set, but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see the film on the big screen… again. The first time I saw The Godfather was in the early ‘90s at an older revival theater — not nearly as remarkable an experience as tonight’s showing was.

And the icing on the cake? The ticket was only $5. This wasn’t at an old, run-down theater that specializes in showing old movies, mind you — this was at a state-of-the-art AMC theater located in one of the most upscale malls in SoCal.

I believe the movie is scheduled to run through at least the end of this week (YMMV, depending on location). I strongly urge fans of this film to treat yourselves to this wonderful theater experience while it is still available.

EDIT: Minor clarification - it appears to be running through Thursday, 3/24, primarily at AMC theaters.

Being contemporary with its release, part three lacks some allure, but I find it otherwise as good as the other two.
I love those movies…
I bought them @iTunes Store, I wonder if they will get upgraded to 4K the same way they did HD from SD.

If you bought them from the iTunes Store, then yes they will be upgraded. Release date for the physical discs is March 22 - I would expect the upgrade to occur some time around then.

I thought about going to see it in the theater, but I don't know if I could make it through a 3 hour movie these days. With the fancy new theater seats, I'd be asleep by the time Sonny gets murdered.
