I dunno if I can wait for mid/late 2023.

If I knuckle under and get the pro, Im sure they will announce the next day!

Typing from my Mid 2011 15" MacBook Pro!

San Antonio, TX (in the old city)

"All that is required for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke
“Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented." - Eli Weisel

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." - Theodore Roosevelt (1918)

"I don’t want to see religious bigotry in any form. It would disturb me if there was a wedding between the religious fundamentalists and the political right. The hard right has no interest in religion except to manipulate it." - Billy Graham 1981

"Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise" - Barry Goldwater

None of the MBA’s has ever interested me because I refuse to buy a computer with only 2 ports.

The 14 and 16 inch M1 Pro/Max MBP are fine machines that run quiet, but are not silent. Unless you put your ears within 8 inches of the screen, you probably won’t hear them.

With a single plug $30 dongle giving you 7-12 different ports, seems like a non issue?

Two ports on the MBA used to be a big problem, but yeah -- with Thunderbolt 3/4 it's almost a non-issue.

The only case I've encountered where it's potentially a serious liability is with audio guys. Adding a dock or hub adds latency and can introduce noise so a direct connection to the USB/Thunderbolt port is preferred.

Thats good to know, wonder if you get the same latency if it was a Tbolt hub vs USB C.

Although I would think an audio person might naturally gravitate to a 14/16 MBP with more every thing.

I think all kinds of problems can occur, glitching audio, etc. I don't know if usb-c hubs have as many issues as previous usb's, but I'm hesitant to try it. I also think hubs are super cumbersome. On a laptop, I can't stand it.

The TBolt ports on M1s can theoretically push 40 GBs of data. USB A, on a good day, maybe 4-5 GBs. So. Much. More. Power.

I mean we are are talking about a "portable" -- realistically the only time you would need all the ports is when its sitting on a desk, right?

1 plug. And you get it all.

Seems like EVERY audio guy thinks he can get away with using a 4GB/120GB MacBook Air and a 2009 Mac Pro that he's never upgraded from 10.6, and then one day he loses everything to a corrupt directory from a full drive and asks me why he's having problems.

But every once in awhile, I can hook one up with an audio engineer who knows WTF he's doing and they do it right.
