Bonus points if it's connect to both a PC and a Mac.

Kind of. I have a UGreen 2-port USB KVM Switch Box that I got for cheap off ebay.

I say "kind of" because I only use the USB ports for the keyboard and mouse. It has video but it's VGA (really, who uses VGA?), and I don't use it but instead use the multiple inputs on my monitor. The plan was to get a switch without video, but this model was as cheap as other options.

Sorry, two Macs, not a PC.

I should add, it needs to be 4K.

Yes. I have a 2012 Mac Mini connected by usb wireless to a Logitech MX Keys for Mac Keyboard and a MX Master 2S Mouse, The monitor is an Acer K272HUL connected via Displayport to the Thunderbolt/Displayport on the Mini. My work laptop is a Dull 7300 with a Logitech usb transceiver and a HDMI cable connected to the monitor. When I want to switch computers, I use the source select button on the monitor, the F13 or F14 keys on the keyboard and the select button on the bottom surface of the mouse. No actual KVM is installed - it's all done individually.

I'm using this to switch between two minis:

Occasionally hiccups and you have to reselect multiple times. Its only 1080p, though.

Biggest consideration is the "V" part....
what sort of video connector(s) are you looking to support?

I have an IOGEAR, but it's far from the seamless I had hoped for....

any chance your monitor has multiple inputs and you can get by w/ just a KM switch, and then switch V on the monitor's input selector?
That's what I ended up doing, as it sounds like others here did, too.
Things have come a long way since the old Dr. Bott's ADB KVM's....
well, except for that pesky video lag thing when switching.

What's a KVM?

"Keyboard, Video, Mouse"
A switch that allows one to share the components between two or more computers. It lets you switch between them on the fly, usually by pressing a main "button or switch".

back in the day, we used Gefen products.
But since they have been absorbed by Nortek, looks like less of their thing.

Looks like Adder and Avocent are more in the "affordable" market.
Once you're in 4k, fkn $$$.

Based on that site, 4K is not just fkn $$$, but a sh1+ton of fkn $$$. Like enough to buy a couple extra 4K monitors kind of $$$s.

indeed. I run 2 Macs off 1 monitor, kb & tp with screen share.
every now and then I need to plug in a kb to the MP3,1. The trackball for it is always plugged in, but I seldom use it.
For the monitor, I switch the DVI for the MP3,1 and DP for the MM if need be.
