Difficult Matting For 11x17 print

I have an 11x17 print I'd like to frame, mat and sell.

I'd like to mat the image in the style of the US flag colors: red, white and blue.

What is the dead easy "next size up" typical picture frame size for a matted 11x17 print? 16x20 does not seem like enough room to do the three mat colors.

Anyone here buy frames and Mats online in bulk and have a good source?

TIA

I've seen 13x19 frames for 11x17 images - but I can't imagine anyone has made a US flag themed matte - you'll probably have to paint your own or find some kinda decal to apply.

I've never been a framer but I think that they do mats
one red
then white
then blue

Staggered, around the image.

I think a really good image doesn't need a fancy colored mat. Typically, top & side margins are equal and the bottom is slightly wider.

The next standard size up from 16x20 is 20 x 24

And, 20x24 is in the same proportion as 16x20

13x19 is way too narrow a rectangle (in that size) for your image's shape/proportion.

In standard sizes, proportion-wise, you're in the right ballpark for your image and your matting, without going to a custom proportion and size.

You've only talked about the matting so far..what is the image of?

13x19 is an A3? format. Widest a basic wide format digital printer will do. I have an old Stylus Photo 1200 at home that does 13x19, or you can print 13x up to 44"? with roll paper for panoramas. I use it for printing targets now.

Not an odd size, as a 2x3 format is 13x19.5 Just a full frame image, nothing special.

4x5 proportions are based on 4x5 sheet film, that's all. or 8x10s

It's those odd 120 roll film proportions that throw some stuff off, You just crop to get the right image, and matte and frame. It's squeezing an image into standard outdated frame sizes that cause the issues.
