My grandmother moved into assisted living and this radio made it's way to my house. I didn't expect alot with it being I don't know how old but it sounds REALLY good. Very surprising. I've been playing Norah Jones, Tierne Sutton, David Sanborn, Steve Tyrell, and other great artists and I'm very happy. BTW, it has RF input, RCA input, and RCA variable output on the back. Super cool.

Still got mine with the top load cd. The sound is amazing.

That's one of several units in the Bose Wave catalog.

They use a folded horn enclosure that provides decent bass and apparently a high volume, if desired.

They were all the rage many years back.

Good to see this one didn't fall by the wayside.

We have one that we use in out kitchen fairly regularly, mostly for FM, but occasionally for CD's or iPod. Love the sound coming from it.

I have a second one that I got when we were clearing out dad's home, it is currently in the bedroom, but I may move it downstairs to the laundry room.

Dad had one, it was great. I always keep thinking one of the BT speaker peeps, like anker, would try to make something similar, just not as large.

Some of their small speakers are great... but imagine if they were just a bit bigger with similar tech to the bose, but with current tech. Not even $200 sonos sounds as good.

It also uses a folded horn for the bottom.
Still sounds great, although the CD has long since failed.
Fortunately it has an Aux in.

Also behind the acoustic suspension speaker design.

Yep, the Cambridge stuff was pretty much a direct competitor to Bose, without the marketing (therefore brand recognition). Their stuff was every bit as good as Bose, just priced less.

I used to volunteer for a local “FixIt clinic” before the pandemic, and the very first thing I worked on was a Bose Wave that was completely dead. This seemed well beyond my expectation (and experience) of fixing lamps and the like, but I skeptically said we can open it up and see if there’s anything obvious.

Long story short, we found that the power cord had been pulled off its attachment to the circuit board - I would guess somebody tripped on the cord at some point. Soldered it back on, and voila! Good as new.

The lady hugged me, she was so happy.

(Unfortunately, that was probably my biggest success story ever at the FixIt clinic, which was later offset by blowing out the circuit breaker at two different FixIt clinic venues.)

This is exactly why I never bought a Wave.

Aggressive marketing and high price just struck me as much ado about noticeably less.

It's a shame really, as it wasn't a top tier audiophile product, but it was priced like one, but advertised like something from Sharper Image, only more aggressively.

It all put me off.

Yes, he was the K in KLH.

I've still got a lot of Cambridge speaker kit around the house.

I like that his products weren't audiophile poseurs, but good sounding gear at reasonable prices, many steps up from cheap plastic stuff with Sonic in their names.

My dad gave me a top load CD model many years ago, bless his heart. Still enjoying it for over 20 years.

Like many, I wasn't attracted to Bose products due to price/hype and somewhat colored sound. But as a gift, it has been great and served me well. I mostly use it for NPR on the FM.

And now that Bose has been on my mind, I'm remembering that I've got my dad's little Bose setup downstairs which I have never unpacked after clearing out my parent's "independent' living apartment a few years ago. It has a couple of tiny satellites, a small sub woofer, and an integrated head. It sounded OK hooked up to his TV.

I do miss my folks…
