TV Plans in 2022

I have DIRECTV STREAM which is now $90 (including the $5 HBO). I think (but I am not sure) that is is 4k.

I am tempted to try YouTube TV, which is $65, and they want $20 more for 4K. Is 4K really worth it? I have an 77" OLED TV.

or is there an alternative that gives me CNN, BBC, DW, etc without the bloatware of obscure cable channels no one ever watches? I could install an OTA for NBC, ABC, CBS, etc.

Isn't that why you have a big, beautiful 77" OLED TV?

Those sources are available via apps on your Apple TV. Apple TV's TV app integrates them for you if the individual apps are installed.

That's a great idea.

Check to see if you really need the $90 plan? Think there are 2 below it.

We have the $60 plan, seems like it has all the normals, including what you listed... I think. We seem to rarely watch normal TV anymore

If you happen to use T-Mobile, they provide a $10 discount for Youtube TV, as well as for Philo. Also free lowest-level Netflix. You have to have Magenta or higher for the Netflix. Any postpaid account gets the Youtube TV and Philo discounts.

Only if you sit in the zone in which you can appreciate the difference.

Any closer or any farther and you may as well not be viewing 4K.

The 'sweet spot' in the suggested range of the chart will depend on one's individual visual acuity.

Only you will know if you're physically capable of resolving 4K resolution, and if you appreciate the delta between it and lesser resolutions.

For some, long-ish viewing of 4K content may be necessary before returning to lesser fare may to appreciate what 4K offers.

I don't know if actual 4K can be downloaded from YT, but if you can find some somewhere on the 'net, you should definitely give it a go.

Then there's 24, 30, and 60Hz, and the various artificial 120Hz or higher frame rates.

That's a different discussion.
