I am nearly due for my yearly haircut. I went a little long during the pandemic and learned that I prefer a spring cut over a fall cut. My hair provides decent insulation.

Flowbee baby.

I'm using the much more modern equivalent: a Remington clipper with built-in vacuum, that I've written about here before... it's still going strong, and easily paid for itself within three uses. I've gotten WAY more than three uses out of it by this point.

What’s hair? I seem to vaguely remember some reference to it in my very distant past.

Cutting my own monthly with electric shears since April 2020.

When/if the pandemic eases off a bit more, I expect to start getting my hair cut by a professional again. I'm getting very good at it, but I miss the social aspect.

...It'll be weird going out some place where someone not my SO hovers over me for a half hour, sharing my air-space.

If you want to try it, I have a quick and easy procedure with semi-pro shears and standard rakes:
#4 rake over the ears.
#5 rake just above that, dropping down in a "U" around the back from the ears to the base of the skull.
#6 rake for the next 2-3 inches above that.
#7 rake around the "cap."
#8 rake for the top of the head and the front.

If the back isn't straight, I hit it with a small beard trimmer using a mirror on the back of my bathroom door and the mirror over the sink. Sometimes I use a piece of masking tape across the back of my head to get a clean line.

I cut my own hair using Wahl clippers and some thinning sheers.
#4 (1/4”) beard
#8 (1”) sides of head
#10 (1.25”) back and top of head

It’s not as nice as a stylist but it’s good enough as long as I cut every three weeks.

Wow. I’m #1 all the way round (#2 on the beard). Anything less and I look kinda like Bozo.

take off your shirt, face away from a full length mirror, and hold up a shiny pot lid. Your hair just flew south. Some moved into your ears.

Going this week, masks went away last year thanks to Desantis's anti-health stance.

For many years I've been cutting my wife's hair and she's been cutting mine. We started after I went to a hair place with her and 2 hours later we walked out after somebody pretty much cut straight lines across the back, sides and front of her hair; the sides were sloped but the front and back were horizontal. The person also did a thing where she held up pieces of my wife's hair and cut them at an angle all the way around. That gave it a tapered effect on the sides and back. The total time to cut her hair was maybe 10-15 minutes. After we left I told my wife I could do that for her and we'd save hours. So, she let me try it. After several times I got pretty good at it. She regularly gets asked who cuts her hair. I cut the front and sides of mine and my wife does the back. Again, maybe 10 minutes, tops. We always do it before we're going to take a shower and we get ready to shower before we cut so clean up is brushing off, vacuuming the floor and the shower. Easy peasy.

Of course, it's helpful that we're both married so we don't worry about impressing anybody. That's a helpful perspective if one of us messes up!

Steve,

No hair cuts at all from Feb/March 2020 until July 2021. Just let my hair grow out. Got a hair cut the morning of a family event. Been getting one once every two or three months since. I make sure I'm the first cut of the day and always wear a mask and an old flannel shirt for it. Usually in and out in about 15 minutes. I always go on a Sunday morning. That way, I have time to change my clothes and take a quick shower after the cut before I go about my business of the day.

A young lady in the salon where my daughter works has been doing my hair for about four years now. She's become another 'adopted daughter', visits our house and hangs out with our daughter. And she is an artist... I've never had a haircut this nice. I'm sort of "Dad" or "Uncle" to a whole herd of young ladies. And my wife is "Mom".

10+ YEARS ago, I had my head shaved at a "St Baldrick's Day" event. I also had my mustache of 40+ years shaved at the same event. I liked the clean look and have remained "hair free" ever since. boink smiley

I've been going to a woman who cuts hair at her house. In the early stages of covid, she cut hair outside. Pretty much back to normal now and haven't had any issues.

Once or twice a year, pull the ponytail tight and trim off 4+ inches.

As a man with a full head of lustrous hair, still, I let it grow and when around numerous cue ball friends I constantly run my hands thru it, and say, 'Wow. I need a haircut.'

Been getting semi-annual haircuts for the past several years. Walk into the shop, sit down, and ask for a #2. Barber cuts sides and back, there’s nothing on top. Takes longer to clean it up than to cut it.
Then I pay and say ‘see you in six months’.

Seriously, THIS retired soul doesn't go out much and have not cut my hair in over 2 years. I haven't had hair this long since high school. Well, a little bit of a receding hairline, but what can I do?

My beard on the other hand is longer than I've ever worn it. Think Robinson Crusoe!! eye twitch smiley

I was ready to do that last summer, as my hair was longer than it ever had been.

Or get a Flowbee. smiling smiley

Cut it myself Mar 2020 to Mar 2021. Been having it cut in person for the last year. Most stylists wear mask. No masks required for customers since about September.

Never stopped getting my hair cut professionally (not that I do so very often). Don't wear a mask or expect the barber to. But masks, in general, aren't really a thing around here. Neither is COVID, most people have stopped concerning themselves with it and everyone is pretty much over it and moving on with their lives.

Maybe I should try that. I haven't had a haircut since lockdown started, and this is the longest I've had it ever in my life. I've been braiding it and pinning it up in back, but it's getting too ratty on the ends for me to handle it by myself. I think I'll try trimming off 2 inches to start.
