Posted by: Tiangou
Date: April 16, 2022 08:56PM
Late June.

16-Inch Max, 32GB/1TB. Is not expected to ship for 2 months.

This is my first new MBP since 2009. (I have some other Mac laptops that I rehabbed from parts and a couple of Mac minis.)

Due to arrive on the solstice. Lucky day, I guess?

Back-order leader?

dunno smiley

My custom Studio (1 TB drive) was originally scheduled to arrive between May 18-25. Just got a message the other day saying it'll arrive April 28th. So maybe you'll get yours early too.

Congratulations. I bought a 14 from costco during their current sale and love the m1 pro chip. It was an upgrade a mid 2013 i7 15 retina which is still working strong but too many apps are requiring the new chip, so took the leap. New laptop is 16gb 1tb m1 pro.

Ps: the costco 90 day return on electronics applies which is so much better then apple’s 14 day. And it was an online purchase but can be returned to any of the stores.

Ok. You're the person I've been looking to talk to. I believe I have the same 15" (late 2013), and like you say, it's still a phenomenal machine. Biggest complaint is that the fans seem to be blaring all the time lately (a bit better after an SMC reset, but still annoying). No real limitations software-wise, but everything I use is optimized for Apple Silicon, and it would nice not to have to stuff cotton in my ears.

I've admired the portability of my wife and kids' 13" MBPs and Airs for years, so the 14" is probably the perfect machine for me. But I don't carry it around much, so I also hate to give up the screen real estate. Any regrets that you didn't get the 16"?

By the way, while I would hate to be "that guy," your Costco suggestion is an interesting one. Hmmm.

I have no real complaints about my 15 retina (I use the adobe creative cloud subscription professionally, mostly illustrator and pshop). But a couple of the CC apps ran into problems with my video vram.
Overall I am very happy with the 14. I thought I would miss the extra screen size but the beautiful high Rez screen makes up for it. Also I got new glasses (after decades) and I can see better then ever.
The 14 is lighter but I am appreciating the size more. Overall I think I have futureproofed myself (silly human) for at least 5 years.

PS: my work setup is a laptop connected to 27 non thunderbolt display which you can pry out my my cold dead hands to quote chuck Heston. I found an usb c adapter on Amazon so I can keep doing this. The MagSafe on the display won’t work, of course, since MagSafe 3 is brand new. BUT I can charge the 14 through any of 3 usb c ports, which is fine with me. I actually used a 5 watt iPhone adapter overnight!

PPS: the costco sale goes on till end of April Altho don’t know if the stock will hold out that long,
