I'm way past disgusted with paying $250+/month to Spectrum. T-Mobile just activated my neighborhood so I'll swing with them in tandem for a month or so, any downsides I should look out for?

Getting a bit paranoid about having phone, some banking and now maybe internet in the same basket.

I use T-Mobile home in my rural PA house. I am on bands B2 or B66 for upload. I can get up to 30Mbps but usually am around 17Mbos up.

Download, I am on n71 (rural 5G) and range from 20-70Mbps. Usually am around 40Mbps.

Uptime has been good, once in a while T-Mobile rotates their antenna and I lose 5G. A call to them gets the tech team to rotate back and voila.

Most pings are around 40ms, which is fine for most things but not good for first person shooter games. Other than that, the network is responsive and fast like my other house which uses Verizon Fios. I’ve read very fast ping if you are on their ultra high band 5G and not rural 5G. There are maps you can view. Find hater tater on YouTube, he has some content on finding towers and reading which network will be available to you.

I’ve had TMobile internet for about 8 months now with great success. I usually get over 400 down and about 20 up with a ping of around 18. I’m a happy camper. Glad to be rid of Charter. Together with family shared YouTube TV, Netflix and Prime I’m set.

I’m just trying it again (for the third time).

First time was 4G. Pretty awful - <10 mbs at best and dodgy. Back it went.

Later talked to folks at bricks-and-mortar TM. Oh, you should have tried the 5G. (Well, thanks for the info. 4G wasn’t my choice!)

So I got the 5G mini silver cylinder (Nokia). Worked much better - 20-30 mbs. Doesn’t sound like much, but that’s all we need, if we can get it reliably. But it only passes ipv6, and a site my wife needed for her small business was still on ipv4, so back it went, and back to being over the barrel with XFinity. (<-that works, but at ~$95/mo, it better!)

Now the wife doesn’t need that site anymore, so I thought I’d try again. Got a black squarish 5G unit in the mail. Have seen up to ~75 mbs (woo-hoo!) once, but very variable, and more commonly ~20-ish mbs.

Which is okay, but it keeps losing signal, and doesn’t automatically reconnect. When it has signal, it’s 2-3 bars (out of 5). Tried it in every window. N, S, E, W - no definite difference that I can see.

I’m in a suburb about 10 miles from a major metro area, and about 2 miles from a couple of ~1000 foot TV towers that also host 5G antennas. It should work, but I’m in some kind of Twilight Zone thing.

I’m in the extended coverage part of the map, only 1 block away from “ultra capacity”. (So close, and yet so far…)

Some time when I have a couple hours, I’ll try TM tech support again and see what I can do.

Thanks for the feedback. Wowzers link led to another site [www.youtube.com] that seemed to have some interesting workarounds. I'm in a major metro area so hopefully those tips will be unnecessary. We shall see.

My T-Mobile mifi unit gives me smooth streaming in “middle of nowhere TN”. That said I’ve never needed to or bothered to check speeds. My T-Mo phone also performs well.
