My FB post this morning...
The Christian holiday Easter has several names. The names differ depending on languages, but most are derived from Greek and Latin "pascha", which is taken from the Hebrew (Pesach), meaning Passover. The modern English term Easter developed from the Old English word Eastre or Eostre, which itself developed prior to 899, originally referring to the name of the Anglo-Saxon goddess Eostre.
In nearly all Romance languages, the name of the Easter festival is derived from the Latin Pascha. In Spanish, Easter is Pascua, in Italian and Catalan Pasqua, in Portuguese Pascoa and in Romanian Pasti. In French, the name of Easter is Paques and also derives from the Latin word.

EDIT: I had to replace non standard characters with Phorum compliant characters.

"All that is required for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke
“Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented." - Eli Weisel

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." - Theodore Roosevelt (1918)

"I don’t want to see religious bigotry in any form. It would disturb me if there was a wedding between the religious fundamentalists and the political right. The hard right has no interest in religion except to manipulate it." - Billy Graham 1981

"Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise" - Barry Goldwater

Happy Easter.

We’re also celebrating ice-out in the Twin Cities. A great sign of warmer times soon (high 39° today.)

Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Water Patrol deputies, along with members of the Freshwater Society, declared ice-out on Lake Minnetonka at 5:30 p.m. on April 15.

The ice-out declaration on the 14,500-acre lake, typically the last in the metro area to melt, is considered the official start to the boating season. It most commonly happens in mid-April, though it has occurred as early as March 11, in 1878, and as late as May 5, in 1857, according to Freshwater records.

Ice-out means a boat can maneuver through all of the lake's 37 bays and channels without frozen obstruction. although the water may still contain some chunks of ice.

The state Department of Natural Resources keeps records of ice-outs (and their wintry opposites, ice-ins) around the state. Many lakes around the Twin Cities and to its south have already opened.

(Folks are still ice fishing up north.)

Happy Easter!

Did someone say Snow?

Mid afternoon, we had a small 20 minute snow squall that morphed
into hail for another 10 minutes or so.

We had a real nice morning. Started off slow enough that we watched Sunday school from our couch at home. We managed to get to church in time for the main service though. It was very good and then we enjoyed lunch at my mothers house complete with Easter pictures. Next step is washing my wife’s car and then practicing the ukulele. All in all a very good day.

Ukulele music I couldn't find anywhere else.

Easter is my favorite. We went to sunrise service by the water, then gave the horses snacks and took photos with bunny ears on them, then met my family who is in from the opposite coast, for a couple of hours… during which time my other half came down with a stomach bug. We didn’t eat together, in fact, I only had a croissant today. Yay!
