While it lasts-our weeping cherry 2022

I say while it lasts because after two perfect days around 80º-and, they happened to be Saturday and Sunday!-the bottom will drop out with two nights, maybe three, with temps in the mid to upper 20s and highs in the 40s. The tree had the buds just opening yesterday but when I got up this morning...

I hope the blossoms don't fall before we have a chance to enjoy them-

A little break from the grief...

One of my father’s favorite poems:

Loveliest of trees, the cherry now
Is hung with bloom along the bough,
And stands about the woodland ride
Wearing white for Eastertide.

Now, of my threescore years and ten,
Twenty will not come again,
And take from seventy springs a score,
It only leaves me fifty more.

And since to look at things in bloom
Fifty springs are little room,
About the woodlands I will go
To see the cherry hung with snow.

A. E. Housman - 1859-1936

Unfortunately, I had to have my 30 ft. weeping cherry removed this spring. Lots of dead branches and sparse leaves during the summer. Trying to grow grass in its place right now.

Beautiful. I hope it fares better than ours did. A similar situation to yours happened to us a while back, killing lots of weeping cherries in the area. I still miss ours.

Thx, all! But I actually meant that the blossoms won't be around long when the cold air gets here tomorrow.

However, yes, we've thought the tree itself was dying a few times. It is at least sixty years old and has lost limbs here and there. There are some dead twigs and small branches that I'll have to trim off soon.

She's hanging in there tho!

It's pictures of your tree that prompt us to plant one this summer. We removed a very sickly alder growing around our power drop, and just need to grind the stump and bring in soil to re contour the front planting area.

That’s a lot of greenery! I think we hit 33° today for a high. At least the snow is long gone even if nothing is green.

Flirting with frost next two nights here. Seems like every flowering tree is flowering at the moment. Hoping the heat island can keep us just above the danger.
