First I appreciate the insight and considerate responses offered by our MRFriends - thank you!
Second, I decided to send what some might call an ill-considered email to the head of HR, the company president and founders, and my management chain, detailing how pernicious their termination of my employment merely as a cost cutting measure was to the company and to me. I also detailed the impacts and asked for more stock vesting or compensation or them paying for COBRA coverage or job placement.
Someone from the HR chain reached out and while of course there's almost nothing more they can do, they had to make everyone a "fair" offer and they didn't do anything special for anyone, they can and are accelerating some stock vesting...
Unfortunately, looks like its value has plummeted since I was laid off, so it may very well be worthless by the time I'm actually able to do anything with it.
