Nothing new. 4TB 2.5" SSDs been around for a long time. 5 years? 8TB 2.5" SSDs for a couple of years, say mid 2020?

You can get a 4 TB SSD for about $200 less.

I trust OWC drives about $200 more than cheap brands - so the pricing seems right for some peace of mind.

I wouldn’t call Samsung, crucial, Sandisk or western digital cheap brands myself, but ok.

True enough. However, those brands all have 4TB 2.5" SDDs near $200 less than OWCs offering.

I trust Samsung SSD's over any other brand. Hands down.

And just to be clear, Im not here to knock our beloved forum leaders... plenty of OWC stuff on my desk. and a couple of things in my cart.

but for this particular thing...

OWC has some awesome deals on 2020 27" iMacs... base model is $999... can add ram, toss an external NVMe off the back... still a smoking iMac... considering getting one as a backup...

I have mostly Crucial SSDs. 4TB SSDs are still expensive enough to make me think twice.

Hi everyone,

Spec-wise, the OWC SSD is nearly the same as this model from Inland Premium:

As much as I like OWC products - and I do - I wouldn't buy their 4TB 2.5" SSD. Not for $579.99. No doubt, it's a good product. It just isn't $230 more good than, say, the similar SSD from Inland Premium, which is $349.99.

And, I can vouch for Inland Premium 2.5" SSDs. They're rock solid. Same goes for their NVME sticks.

Robert, I'm hoping that the Inland drives are good, got them in 3 Macs now.

Im running a pair of 2 TB NVMe pros config into an external TBolt 4TB RAID 0, hit them pretty hard -- lots of R/Ws 10 hours a day... will know soon enough. =)

I have the following SSDs from OWC:

480 GB SSD in 2011 MBP - in there several years
1 TB NVMe SSD in 2017 MBA #1 - used daily for over two years
1 TB NVMe SSD in 2017 MBA #2 - used daily for over two years
1 TB NVMe SSD in 2020 DIY Flight Sim Build - used often

Have had flawless operations from these... thanks OWC!
