How to throw away broken glass?

We have a county landfill where everything ends up. I broke a mason jar and can’t find anything to put it in except a cardboard box. I guess the odds of someone walking through garbage and cutting themselves years from now are pretty slim.

Break the glass pieces a bit more so the pieces are less "dagger-ish". After that, Darwin rules apply.

There is worse stuff than broken glass in landfills.

Diapers for example.

We have a construction salvage site with dumpsters outside for glass bottles, cardboard, …

I’d dump it there if available

Curbside pickup says not to put in broken glass, but I don't see how anything makes it into the truck without shattering. For a broken mirror I would duct tape the edges, if for no other reason then to make it apparent that it is sharp. Then the trash guys toss it.

In the bin at curbside the glass is going to be handled by the driver doing the pickup. Broken glass will be a hazard to them or anyone else who handles the bin. When they are emptying the truck and later on, the handling is going to be done by machinery, not the same level of hazard to people.

....it depends how big are the pieces....??

....if they are large pieces, I usually tape them back together and throw in recycle bin....if smaller, put in plastic bag before putting in recycle bin....

Honestly anyone walking in a landfill without proper safety boots is gonna be very, very upset with the end results.

We recycle the bits in our curb pickup. They sort them out. Everyone wears cut proof gloves and whatnot.
