Anyone finish Ozark on Netflix? Possible spoilers

I finished it yesterday.
Boy, that was a dark series.
I think Laura Linney was great, as were most of the cast.
The final episode was not bad, sad, but not bad.
Being filmed around metro Atlanta and lake Lanier, it was fun trying to identify some of the locations.

What did you guys think of it and the series in general?

I avoided it for a long time just due to the violence. But I have always liked Jason Bateman, so I decided to catch up during the second season. Just finished this week with the final season part 2.

Julia Garner was incredible as Ruth (and just as incredible in Inventing Anna). Laura Linney also did an excellent job with her role. It was always a tossup whether Wendy Byrde or Darlene Snell was the most evil character.

Ozark ended up being very worth watching.

Judging by past threads there are about 10 people here who watch it. I'm on the third episode of the new drop. Gotta ration them out and not binge them all in one sitting. LOL

very well done. But as with many streaming dramas, the pace is slow to me. I watch on my laptop, and speed up the playback to 108%. Really helped with Breaking Bad, Bosch, and Better Call Saul too.

I liked it. Wife, not so much: violence.

Yeah, there was no lack of violence.

Spoil me, rg!

I watch the first season then bailed.

It was just too dark for me, and I could see it would get worse before it got better.

And apparently it didn't get all that much better.

I'm only somewhat inured to violence, unless it's just really gratuitous, which cheapens any positive aspects of a story.

So that alone didn't bother me, it was just the never ending darkness.

So many series heap it on without hope, and that weighs heavily.

I've always like both Bateman and Linney, but this was more than I wanted to watch.

Yeah, it was very dark. This season I had to not watch right before bed, it was just not good to wind down with that, lol.
It was interesting to see just how many twists and turns they could work in

We bailed after a couple of seasons when it became apparent that there was not a single character who we cared about who had anything but a one-dimensional personality. Good series (e.g. Breaking Bad) have characters that might be evil but you can see a little bit of humanity in. Ozark just had a bunch of characters that you didn't like.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

Executions, duplicity, greed. Definitely no social redeeming to be seen anywhere in the series. But what I want to know is what was up with the priest? I half expected him to emerge with a glock somewhere. And how easy is it to grow and process heroin in the US? Lots of far fetched writing in Ozark, at least to my taste.

This pretty much sums up my feelings, too. And I didn't even make it through the first episode, let alone first season.

Just binged the the last three episodes last night.

Loved every second of it. Unlikeable characters? Coming out of the ears. Complex, rich, intriguing, character studies. As dark as a black hole. Done right, fine with me. And this was done impeccably.

For my money, it goes on the same shelf as The Sopranos and The Wire. And that’s on pure execution, not just as a genre piece.

Performances? Jason Bateman? Laura Liney? Julia Garner?

Stellar.
Stellar.
Stellar. And the great performances continue down the line. Jonah, Charlotte, Darlene, Wyatt, Helen, Navarro, Javi, et al. Excellent characters, all mined expertly for deft, intriguing performances.

BB, that was a brilliant summation, many thanks for that.

I can still see that despite excellent execution, the content would still preclude my full appreciation of it.

It's not often a show or series hits so well on all cylinders for someone, and I'm happy that it was all that for you.

Thanks again for your view.

Thank you for your kind words.

It’s true, it sounds odd, but quality only goes so far. There are wonderful comfy slippers out there, but sometimes the shoe just doesn’t fit, stylish and well made or not (which in an odd way somehow explains my deep affection for Crocs). Fortunately, now days there is a cornucopia of shows to choose from.

Terrific! As I mentioned when it started; it seemed like the offspring of Breaking Bad and Justifed.

Garner was excellent, and Linney was amazing!
