Ky Derby was not a return to normal after all

After major adaptions the past two years, the Kentucky Derby was all set to be back to normal with full crowds, no masks, and certainty for the favorites. A scratch the day before the race allowed the entry into the field of Rich Strike from the pool of eligible candidates. Without the weeklong analysis of all the horses, nothing was publicly known so he went off at 80-1odds.

Found his way through the pack, got on the rail and easily outran the favorites to win. A fast pace had the favorites tiring toward the end but Rich Strike was having none of that. If you were "foolish" enough to bet $2 on this one you got $163.60. I have to wonder how many did.

Horse racing certainly has serious questions about ethics and abuse of horses, butI have to confess to enjoying watching the Derby. (That it is but a few miles from my back yard and weeks of hype probably contribute to the interest.)

Quick question. Have you ever owned a horse?
